Feels like home, happy to stay here! The location is very strategic, the room is clean and smells good. The staffs are very kind and helpful, they even helped us arranged a wonderful tour around Kintamani and Bangli with affordable price. You won't regret staying at Meruhdani!

Not recommended, after we came.. the room is full then they ask us to switch to another hotel, so disappointed even the breakfast is not a buffet, I only can choose 1 from 2 option menu.. maybe it's my fault because I didn't call the hotel, and see the review hope you guys didn't feel the same as we

The idea first is to stay at the best reviewed score hotel at Bali and that is Meruhdani. At the time of my visit the score was 9,7 but I took a gamble because it came from only 6 guests and the last review was almost a year before. We (me & my wife) stay for 4 days and 3 nights. So let me describe our experience on day to day basis: First day: We are under impression that the staff are surprised of having us a guest that day. She double checked my booking on my own phone (shouldn't they know beforehand that a guest with my name will be checking in that day?). After an awkward check in process (again we are under impression that they are surprises for having us a local as a guest that day) we were shown our room. First impression of the room, hotel surrounding and facilities are nice. They have pool, clean and beautiful garden. Took an afternoon walk around the hotel find something to eat, and when we back to the hotel to take a bath we realized no towels provided. Call the receptionist and the staff said it was on the bed with a swan shape. But it wasn't there. So the housekeeping staff had to deliver the towels to our room. Day 2: We plan to go outside Ubud area for today. Per written instruction on the bathroom, we leave the towels hang as a sign for the housekeeping staff not to replace the towels. But when we come back that evening, the towels are gone and we had to call the receptionist again to ask for new towels. Day 3: The power (electricity) for some part of Ubud were down from around 8 AM. Ok, we thought this was usual around the area so we leave the hotel to explore Ubud area by foot. When I ask for breakfast coupon at the front office, the staff we talked to were told by other to inform me about the electricity (she might forget to tell me if her friends doesn't remind her). At this time I still feel it was something that is not a big problem. So we went to hotel's resto to take a breakfast and continue our walk. Around 1 pm the rain start so we had to go back to the hotel and things began to crumble for us. We found out that the power still down (the staff said the power usually down for just an hour). The weather turn from bad to worst, it was raining hard for hours. I keep thinking that hotel this big should have a backup power or generator and they will turn it on after the dark to reserve the gas. But the worst keep coming, we don't have water! Because no power, the water pump wasn't working. Around 5pm it already dark because no power and bad weather. And at this point no one from the hotel staff gave us the update about the situation. Our room was on the 2nd floor (each floor has 4 rooms) and it was very dark. I had to go to the front office in the middle of heavy rain just to ask for candles. When I arrived at the front office, the staff said the housekeeping were delivering the candle but I chose to take 3 candles my own and ask for matches and they don't have it! So I told them to deliver it to my room. After about 1 hour later the housekeeping staff finally came to our room and brought only 1 burning candle with no matches and said nothing about the gruesome situation we had. So at that moment we as a guest feel neglected without official information, confirmation, or any form of communication from the hotel about the situation. We left in the dark for hours in the middle of bad weather and heavy rain with no electricity and the most important thing: no water! We had to used our spare drinking water to flush the toilet, and when it runs out we had to restrain our self for going to the toilet not knowing until when. That night we had to sleep over a burning candle, heavy rain, and no water. The power then went up at 11pm. Last day: We proceed to check out and hopefully the staff or someone from the hotel will said any sympathetic words about what happened the day before. Well they did not. So in conclusion: First of all there is nothing wrong with Ubud, I really love the place and surely will go there again sometime. Secondly, I don't blame the power/electricity situation either, it was probably unavoidable technical problem somewhere and happened to other hotels too. Now the hotel is nice, clean, good and located strategically in the center of Ubud. But somehow the services we feel very awkward. And the most important thing we feels as a guest that the hotel has a lack of anticipation when thing like this happen. We feel neglected, no communication or whatsoever that can comfort us and try to provide solution to the problems arouse that day. These are the things that we think the hotel should do: Give update regularly to the guest about the power situation. We left in confusion and keep 2nd guessing ourselves about what and will be happen when the electricity still down on the next day. Don't expect the guest to come to reception because it was heavy rain and the phone of course was unavailable. Tell us what happen. Is it happen often? What cause it? How long usually happen etc. Send candles complete with matches to every room early. Better yet provide us with some sort of emergency lamp. This will be a first sign that the hotel care about the guest in that situation. Don't come late in the evening when it was already dark and with only one burning candles (in 5 minutes mine get blown by the wind so I had to walk downstairs to ask another guest to lit my candle). Give us water! Provide a bucket or two of water to every guest room. This is very important. Fortunately we don't have stomach or bladder issue, I don't know about other guests. This hotel shines when everything run well, but not when things starting to go wrong. So if you want to stay here, ask if they have a backup power/generator installed for emergency situation first. Or at least provide each room with emergency lamp kit. Notes: I didn't took a photo during the 3rd day because my phone were low in battery so I have to shut it down and reserve enough power to contact our driver on the last day.
