Established in 1859, the 82-hectare Singapore Botanic Gardens offer a brief respite from the busy Orchard area nearby. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers plenty of attractions, from an urban rainforest to the National Orchid Garden that boasts more than 1,000 orchid species. On weekends, the gardens are filled with locals practicing tai chi, jogging, watching open-air concerts at the Symphony Lake, or having brunch at one of the cafes in the area.
