Airline Profile & History

About Jetstar Airways

Jetstar Airways is the Australian low-cost airline wholly owned by the Qantas Group. The JQ airline code identifies Jetstar Airways. The airline serves Australia and New Zealand alongside international destinations across Asia and the Pacific. Melbourne is its headquarters, and its Australian network includes Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Perth. When comparing Jetstar flights, check the operating airline on each sector as well as the name shown in the search result.

The base ticket and optional extras are priced separately. A traveller with light luggage and fixed dates may need only the flight and its included cabin allowance. Someone taking a longer holiday may want checked bags, selected seats, food and more flexible change conditions. Compare those choices together before deciding which fare suits the journey. The baggage allowance depends on the flight date, fare and extras actually included in the booking.

Jetstar Airways is different from Jetstar Asia, the former Singapore-based airline with the code 3K. Jetstar Asia permanently ceased operations; its closure does not mean Jetstar Airways or Jetstar Japan stopped flying. Jetstar Japan uses GK and has its own operating rules. Older lists of Jetstar airlines and regional routes can combine these businesses, so an old route description is not evidence that a particular JQ service is available today.

On Traveloka, compare the flights offered for your dates and examine their baggage, departure airports and fare conditions. This guide explains the main Jetstar Airways policies and the decisions to make before payment. The details attached to your selected Traveloka ticket matter: Jetstar's direct-booking product guides expressly warn that fares purchased through travel agents can have different inclusions.

For an international Jetstar booking, begin with the operating airline and the airports on each sector. JQ is Jetstar Airways, GK is Jetstar Japan and the former 3K airline has closed. An itinerary combining different operators can have different cabin allowances, check-in windows and connection procedures.

Ownership, History and Frequent Flyer Eligibility

Jetstar began with Australian domestic flying, including its inaugural Newcastle to Melbourne service. It later expanded across the Tasman and into longer international journeys. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner added long-haul capability, while newer Airbus narrow-body aircraft support other international and domestic routes. This history explains why the airline combines short interstate trips with holiday flights to Asia and the Pacific.

Qantas owns Jetstar Airways, but a Jetstar ticket has its own fare conditions and inclusions. Booking a Qantas-owned airline does not automatically provide the meals, baggage or lounge access associated with a different Qantas fare. Jetstar Japan is a separate partnership involving the Qantas Group, Japan Airlines and Tokyo Century. The closed Jetstar Asia business should not be treated as the current hub for Jetstar Airways.

  • Safety oversight: Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority lists Jetstar Airways as an air operator. Operational oversight does not mean that weather, aircraft substitutions or schedule changes can never affect a trip.
  • Alliance: Jetstar Airways is not itself an oneworld member. Qantas's alliance membership does not automatically attach alliance benefits to every JQ booking.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer: points and Status Credits depend on an eligible fare or bundle. Flex, Flex Plus and Business Max have eligibility conditions; ordinary Starter and standard Business fares have different treatment. Starter bookings on New Zealand domestic flights have a specific Qantas Points exception.

If earning rewards matters, read the terms for the actual fare being sold, add the correct membership details where supported and retain the ticket information. A Business cabin seat alone is not proof of points eligibility. Similarly, lounge entry depends on the qualifying fare, departure airport and access conditions rather than the airline's parent company.

Fleet and Aircraft Features

Jetstar Airways uses the Airbus A320 family and Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Airbus types include A320, A320neo, A321 and A321neo LR aircraft. The airline's published fleet material distinguishes aircraft in service from future orders; an order for a new variant does not establish that it will operate your flight. Aircraft assignments can change, so the itinerary and seat map are more useful for planning than an old fleet total.

Airbus aircraft

The Airbus fleet has an Economy cabin with a single aisle. A320-family aircraft normally arrange seats three on each side. Different variants have different capacities and seat maps. Check the position of exit rows, toilets and the seats you want to reserve. An extra legroom seat has safety eligibility requirements, and choosing an upfront row is a location choice rather than a separate Business cabin.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Jetstar's 787 international aircraft offer Economy and a recliner-style Business cabin. Business seats are not lie-flat beds. The 787's larger windows and cabin design distinguish it from the narrow-body fleet, but your onboard services still depend on the booked fare. On domestic 787 services, Jetstar sells all seats as Economy; the aircraft type alone does not establish international Business inclusions.

The Dreamliner fleet is being refreshed. Original and refreshed aircraft can operate during the transition, and the final aircraft may only be known on departure day. Refreshed cabins have a different seat layout and replace seatback entertainment screens with content streamed to your own device. They also offer Wi-Fi on selected international services. Bring a charged device and headphones, and check any notice about a changed seat assignment.

For long sporting equipment, the operating aircraft affects the maximum permitted length. For mobility assistance, it affects onboard facilities too: JQ Airbus aircraft do not have an aisle wheelchair or wheelchair-accessible toilet. Arrange the help you need before committing to an itinerary rather than assuming that every Jetstar aircraft has the same facilities.

Routes and Connecting Flight Choices

Jetstar's network includes Australian domestic flying, New Zealand services and international destinations. Routes and frequencies vary with season and demand. Search the dates you intend to travel, compare the departure airport and read every sector's operator. A city-pair search page can show several airlines and connecting options; it is not a promise that Jetstar operates a nonstop service between those cities.

For an onward trip, examine both the international arrival and the next departure. Airport names matter: a change between airports in the same city can require a ground transfer. Allow time for immigration, baggage collection, customs, a terminal change and the next airline's check-in deadline. Where tickets are separate, check their connection and disruption conditions before relying on a tight transfer.

Checked baggage transfer depends on the specific booking and connection. Read the instructions on the itinerary and ask the handling airline whether collection and re-check are required. Do the same for a return journey containing a different operator or fare. Carry passports, visas and essential medication where you can reach them throughout the journey, including when an overnight connection requires you to enter the transit country.

Seasonal destinations should be searched for both outbound and return dates. A route announcement or a destination shown on a network map does not guarantee seats on any chosen day. Compare the total journey duration, layover and arrival date rather than only the advertised flying time. Overnight flights can arrive the following day, and Australian daylight-saving changes can alter the time difference.

These searches cover Australian domestic, trans-Tasman and Bali trip choices. Compare the flights offered on each city pair and the airports involved. For a wider itinerary, read every operating airline and arrange realistic transfers rather than assuming all Jetstar-branded sectors share the same inclusions.

Baggage Allowance and Packing Rules

Carry-on baggage and departure-date changes

Jetstar Airways publishes different cabin-baggage rules according to departure date. For ordinary, non-group JQ flights departing before 2 February 2027, standard Economy allowance is two items, one main bag and one small item, with a combined 7 kg. An eligible extra allowance or bundle may increase the combined total to 14 kg. Business allowance is 14 kg across two items, not two large bags plus another personal item. No single cabin item may exceed 10 kg. The main overhead bag limit is 56 x 36 x 23 cm, including wheels and handles.

For ordinary JQ bookings made on or after 5 August 2026 for departures on or after 2 February 2027, standard Economy includes one underseat bag up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm. An overhead bag up to 56 x 36 x 23 cm requires Priority Carry-on or an eligible bundle. Business includes both items, and no individual cabin bag may exceed 10 kg. Priority Carry-on is limited and can sell out; it does not guarantee early boarding in every operational situation.

Unchanged non-group bookings made before 5 August 2026 for travel from 2 February 2027 receive Priority Carry-on without an extra charge. Moving an older booking from a pre-change departure to a later date is different: the original standard 7 kg allowance becomes an underseat bag, while an original extra +7 kg allowance becomes Priority Carry-on if available. Travel-agent inclusions depend on the booking channel; some agent tickets include Priority Carry-on automatically. Check the confirmed Traveloka itinerary, including each JQ and GK sector, rather than assuming that every agent ticket has the same allowance.

Group bookings of ten or more have a separate rule from 1 January 2027: one underseat bag up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm. Priority Carry-on is unavailable for ordinary group bookings; codeshare groups have a separate included-Priority arrangement. Check the group ticket conditions before using the individual-booking rules.

Checked bags and sports equipment

Starter fares do not include checked baggage. Published purchase options run from 15 kg to 40 kg in 5 kg increments. An individual bag must not exceed 32 kg, so a 35 kg or 40 kg allowance needs at least two bags. Direct Flex travelling before 2 February 2027, or purchased before 5 August 2026, has no included checked baggage. New direct Flex bought from 5 August 2026 for travel from 2 February 2027 includes an underseat bag plus a choice of Priority Carry-on or 20 kg checked baggage. The choice is not both extras automatically; if Priority Carry-on is sold out when booking, the 20 kg option applies. New direct Flex on a JQ/GK connecting booking instead has an underseat bag on JQ, 7 kg across two items on GK and no included checked allowance. Direct Flex Plus includes 20 kg, and international 787 Business and Business Max include 30 kg. Travel-agent tickets can differ; use the allowance displayed with your selected fare.

A checked item longer than one metre on any side, including packaging, wheels and handles, attracts an oversized-item handling fee unless exempt. This is not a 158 cm total-dimensions rule. The maximum length is 2.3 metres on Airbus aircraft and 2.77 metres on JQ international 787 flights. When several aircraft are involved, plan for the most restrictive limit. Each passenger can bring at most two oversized items per flight, with the handling fee charged per item and per flight in addition to the purchased weight allowance. Sports equipment counts towards the purchased weight allowance and must be suitably packed. Eligible infant items and mobility or medical aids have separate exemptions.

At the airport, a passenger who has not purchased checked baggage is charged for an initial allowance up to 15 kg and then additional weight. Passengers who already have an allowance pay applicable excess charges if over it. Acceptance depends on space. Compare and arrange baggage before travel, weigh packed items and keep essential documents out of checked bags.

Safety restrictions

Spare lithium batteries and power banks belong in cabin baggage, with protected terminals. JQ permits at most two power banks per passenger and prohibits using or charging them onboard. Battery capacity and airline-approval limits still apply. Damaged or defective batteries must not travel. Vapes are prohibited on journeys to, from or transiting through Singapore. International cabin-liquid rules normally require containers no larger than 100 ml in a clear resealable bag, with exemptions for eligible medicine and infant food. These restrictions also apply to Australian domestic flights departing from an international terminal.

Check-in Times and Airport Steps

Airport counter check-in

For JQ domestic flights from a domestic terminal, airport check-in and bag drop open two hours before departure and close 40 minutes before departure. Be ready at the gate 30 minutes before the flight; the gate closes 20 minutes before departure. These are different deadlines. Reaching the airport at the bag-drop cut-off leaves no time for queues, security or walking to the gate.

For JQ international flights, airport check-in and bag drop open three hours before departure and close one hour before departure. Jetstar's timeline says to be at the gate 50 minutes before departure; boarding closes 20 minutes before departure. Allow time for passport checks, security and immigration. Follow the scheduled departure deadlines unless Jetstar specifically notifies you of an extension during a delay.

An Australian domestic flight departing from an international terminal follows additional procedures. Arrive at least two hours early; check-in closes one hour before departure. You must obtain the appropriate boarding pass and present valid identification. Non-Australian passengers need a passport for these terminal procedures. International carry-on restrictions apply even though the destination is domestic.

Online and app check-in

JQ online check-in for domestic Australia and New Zealand services opens 48 hours before departure and closes 40 minutes before departure. Selected JQ international flights allow online check-in from 48 hours to two hours before departure. Eligibility depends on the flight and passenger circumstances. Online check-in is unavailable for domestic flights departing from international terminals, and additional exclusions include some infant, group, assistance and document-check situations.

A mobile boarding pass does not remove the checked-bag deadline. Use the counter or bag drop when required, and follow any instruction to have travel documents checked. Eligible carry-on-only passengers may go straight to security or the gate where permitted. Keep the boarding pass available offline, and check your airport and terminal before leaving for the flight.

Kiosks and flight updates

Self-service kiosks and bag-drop facilities are available at selected airports, with access depending on the flight and passenger. Allow time for staffed assistance if the kiosk cannot complete your check-in. Track your flight status, check airport displays and listen for gate changes. A boarding pass issued successfully does not extend the boarding deadline.

Check Traveloka Flight Status alongside airport displays and airline updates before departure.

Seats, Cabin Classes, Meals and Entertainment

Economy and seat selection

Economy is available across the Jetstar Airways fleet. Standard seats let you select a preferred position, while upfront seats are nearer the front. Extra legroom seats provide additional space but can be in emergency exit rows, where minimum age and other safety criteria apply. Pregnant passengers from 28 weeks, passengers with lap infants and travellers unable to perform exit-row duties cannot use those rows. Check the seat map and requirements before paying for a selection.

A Starter fare does not include a chosen seat; if you do not pay for selection, Jetstar assigns a seat at check-in without an additional selection fee. Eligible bundles include specified seat categories, subject to availability. Family seating preferences should be arranged in advance through the options available on the booking, and a later aircraft substitution may change seat assignments.

Business on international 787 flights

Jetstar Business uses wider reclining seats rather than lie-flat beds. The direct product guide includes 30 kg checked baggage, selected Business seating, meals, drinks and entertainment for the international Business sector. Standard Business does not include lounge access or Qantas Points. Business Max has different refund, rewards and selected-airport lounge conditions. A domestic connecting sector does not automatically receive the international Business meal, entertainment or comfort-pack inclusions.

Food and drink

Food and drinks are optional on Starter fares. Available meals and snacks vary by aircraft, route and flight length. Pre-purchase eligible meals at least 24 hours before departure; onboard hot-food stocks are limited. An in-flight voucher is for buying from the onboard menu and cannot be used to pre-order a meal. If a bundle is purchased too late to supply its included meal, its voucher arrangements apply.

Check the menu for the actual flight when planning dietary needs. Do not assume that halal, vegetarian or another specialist meal is guaranteed on every aircraft. Bring suitable food where permitted and discuss serious allergies or medical requirements before travel. Infants need their own food and drink because Jetstar does not supply infant meals.

Entertainment and Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is available only on selected international flights operated by refreshed 787 aircraft. Original 787s and Airbus aircraft do not share this service. Refreshed cabins use your device in place of seatback screens; paid streaming options and a free content area are available. Business and eligible entertainment-inclusive fares receive the applicable access on a refreshed aircraft. Charge your device and bring headphones. Service availability can be affected by aircraft changes, coverage and technical conditions, so download essential entertainment before departure.

Infant, Child, Pregnancy and Assistance Policies

Infants and children

Jetstar treats children under two as infants. One infant can travel on a passenger's lap, subject to the applicable fee and safety arrangements. A passenger accompanying two infants needs a separate seat for the second, who must sit upright unaided or use an approved car seat. Contact the booking provider to arrange an infant seat or more than one infant per accompanying passenger. Children aged two or older normally require their own seat and child fare.

If an infant turns two during a trip, Jetstar has a same-booking exception for qualifying return and connecting journeys. Separate bookings and stopovers can require a child fare for the later flight. Check the complete journey rather than entering the same passenger category without checking each departure. Children and infants need passports for international travel, and proof of age may be requested.

Infants younger than 48 hours cannot travel. Jetstar requires medical clearance for babies aged three to seven days; confirm eligibility directly before arranging travel during the first week. Infants under three months must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Certain infant equipment, including a pram, stroller, cot, highchair or approved car seat, can be checked free under the airline's conditions. A lap infant does not receive an additional checked weight allowance. Cabin allowance for infants also changes with the JQ departure-date policy: before 2 February 2027 lap-infant supplies use the accompanying passenger's allowance; from that date lap infants receive an underseat bag. Bassinet availability depends on the flight and aircraft, so arrange it rather than assuming it is included.

Young passengers travelling alone

Jetstar does not provide an unaccompanied minor supervision service. On JQ flights, an independent young traveller must either attend or be enrolled in secondary school, with proof, or be at least 12 with proof of age, and must meet the independent-traveller requirements. For a young passenger travelling alone internationally on JQ, bring a valid passport and have a parent or guardian present throughout check-in. Without a parent or guardian there, check-in may be refused if permission to travel alone cannot be confirmed. Contact Jetstar to book an under-12 secondary-school student who meets its identification and independence requirements. Passengers under 14 on flights to or from Vietnam must have a suitable accompanying passenger. Connections to Jetstar Japan have additional requirements.

Pregnancy

From 28 weeks, carry a doctor or registered midwife's letter confirming the due date, whether the pregnancy is single or multiple and that it is complication-free. On flights shorter than four hours, permitted travel is through the end of week 40 for a single pregnancy or week 36 for a multiple pregnancy. On flights lasting four hours or longer, the limits are the end of weeks 36 and 32 respectively. Complications and multiple pregnancies require medical-clearance arrangements; travel within seven days after giving birth also requires clearance.

Assistance, medical equipment and animals

Arrange wheelchair, mobility-aid and medical-equipment requirements before travel. Battery-powered mobility aids require approval. Passengers must meet Jetstar's independent-traveller requirements, including eating, drinking, toileting and managing medication; an accompanying passenger is needed where those requirements cannot be met. Aircraft facilities differ, so discuss transfers and access for the booked type.

Pets are not carried in Jetstar's cabin or hold. Approved service dogs may travel under accreditation, booking and entry conditions. International service-dog documentation must be arranged at least 14 days ahead, and Jetstar's conditions prohibit service dogs to or from Thailand. Emotional-support animals do not qualify as service dogs merely because they provide comfort.

Flight Changes, Cancellations and Refunds

Changing a flight

Check the conditions of the purchased fare before changing travel plans. Starter date and time changes attract a change fee and any fare difference, subject to the change deadline. Eligible Flex, Flex Plus, Business and Business Max products include date and time changes without a change fee, but a higher replacement fare can still cost more. Other service fees may apply depending on the channel used.

Some eligible products allow a same-day move to another direct flight with the same origin, destination and fare or bundle. This has its own time window: from midnight on the departure day until airport check-in or bag drop opens for the original flight. Jetstar's Important Information also permits eligible same-day requests at the airport service desk until check-in or bag drop closes. Confirm the applicable channel and ticket conditions before relying on that later window. Availability and product conditions apply. This benefit is not permission to change airports freely or miss the original deadline.

Cancelling a ticket

Starter and standard Business fares generally do not provide a voluntary cancellation refund. Eligible Flex and Flex Plus fares can provide a credit voucher when cancelled before the relevant deadline. A voucher is different from a refund to the original payment method. Business Max permits a refund to the original payment method with a refund fee and a specified request deadline. These direct product-guide examples do not override different inclusions on a Traveloka ticket.

Airline cancellations or significant schedule changes are handled under the conditions of carriage and applicable consumer rights. Read the options provided for the affected booking instead of treating a disruption as an ordinary voluntary cancellation. Keep airline notices and the booking reference available. A payment or request receipt does not establish that a replacement ticket or refund has been completed.

Traveloka booking requests

For a ticket bought through Traveloka, open its booking details to see available reschedule and refund options and contact support where needed. Review the quoted airline charges, service charges and fare difference before confirming. Wait for the updated itinerary or refund outcome. Do not buy a second ticket on the assumption that a submitted change request has already been accepted.

Compare Jetstar Flights and Booking Details on Traveloka

Traveloka helps you compare the flights offered for your requested route and dates. Look at departure times, total journey duration, stopovers and fare conditions together. The cheapest displayed base fare may require extra baggage or a meal for your trip, so compare the final total for the same set of needs. A connecting option can also have a different practical cost if it requires an overnight stay or an airport transfer.

  • Fare comparison: read the included cabin and checked baggage for each passenger and each sector.
  • Seat and meal options: select the extras offered for your ticket and check whether they are included or paid separately.
  • Payment choices: use the methods and currency shown at checkout. Availability depends on the booking and market, so do not rely on an old list of payment methods.
  • Booking record: after successful ticket issuance, save the itinerary, booking reference and contact information.
  • Assistance: use the help options shown with the Traveloka booking for questions and requests.

Jetstar's direct-booking bundle names are useful for understanding the airline's products, but the inclusions on Traveloka must be read from the fare you select. Not every seat type, add-on or bundle is necessarily offered for every flight. If a required extra is unavailable during checkout, confirm how it can be arranged before purchasing a ticket that depends on it.

Check the passenger names against the documents used for travel. Review whether the outward and return flights use the same airline, aircraft family and baggage rules. If dates, airports or operators differ, keep a short checklist for each sector so that one set of instructions is not accidentally applied to the entire journey.

For a journey spanning several countries, check entry and transit documents for the whole itinerary and preserve a separate baggage and check-in checklist for each airline.

Finding Suitable Jetstar Fares for Your Trip

Compare nearby dates if your plans are flexible. Prices can vary with availability, season and flight time, so there is no fixed weekday or booking window that guarantees the lowest fare. Look at both one-way and return options where offered, and compare them using the same baggage and seat requirements. A saving on a base fare may disappear once the extras you actually need are added.

  • Plan luggage first: decide whether cabin baggage is enough, then check the departure-date rule and measure the packed bag.
  • Compare the complete price: include checked luggage, seats, meals and any checkout charges shown before payment.
  • Match flexibility to plans: compare the cost and conditions of a more flexible fare against the changes you might need.
  • Check airports: include the time and cost of reaching the actual departure airport, especially if results show alternatives in the same city.
  • Assess a connection: allow for border formalities, bags and separate-ticket risk when evaluating an onward flight.
  • Use current offers: read the conditions of any promotion shown on Traveloka, including travel dates and eligible bookings.

Do not assume that an airline membership benefit or an offer advertised elsewhere is included on a Traveloka fare. Use the total and conditions displayed for your chosen ticket. If you need a particular amount of luggage or a specific seating arrangement, check it while comparing flights rather than discovering the extra requirement at the airport.

For a family or group, compare the itinerary as a whole. Count baggage for the people who actually have an allowance, check infant seating needs and allow for any assistance arrangements. An itinerary with a slightly different flight time can be more suitable if it avoids a difficult transfer or provides the services your travellers need.

How to Book Jetstar Flight Tickets on Traveloka

Start with the cities you want to travel between, your dates and the passenger categories. Enter children's ages for the travel dates and review infant rules if a birthday falls during the journey. Search the full route first, then use the airline filter and flight details to assess the Jetstar options that are actually offered.

  • 1. Open Flights on Traveloka and enter the origin, destination, dates and passenger numbers.
  • 2. Compare the results, including each sector's operator, departure airport, stopovers and arrival date.
  • 3. Open the fare conditions and read cabin baggage, checked baggage, seat and change inclusions.
  • 4. Enter passenger details exactly as required by the passport or other accepted travel document.
  • 5. Select available extras that suit the journey and review their conditions and price.
  • 6. Check the final total, contact details and payment method before completing payment.
  • 7. Wait for ticket issuance, then save the itinerary and airline booking reference.
  • 8. Arrange any required assistance, medical approval or infant seating, and follow the check-in instructions for each flight.

Before departure, re-read the baggage allowance for your travel date and check the airport terminal. Keep passports, visas, essential medication and boarding information within reach. Use online check-in if eligible, or allow time for the required airport process. Continue to follow the scheduled check-in and boarding deadlines if a flight is delayed unless the airline specifically tells you they have changed.

For later changes, return to the details of the Traveloka booking rather than assuming that all fares have the same options. Keep any replacement itinerary and confirmation of added baggage with your travel documents. For the flight itself, check current status and airport displays as departure approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What baggage is included in a Jetstar Starter fare?
Starter has no included checked baggage. Direct Flex travelling before 2 February 2027, or bought before 5 August 2026, has no included checked allowance. New direct Flex bought from 5 August 2026 for departures from 2 February 2027 offers an underseat bag plus a choice of Priority Carry-on or 20 kg checked baggage; JQ/GK connecting Flex bookings have separate rules and no included checked allowance. Direct Flex Plus includes 20 kg; international 787 Business and Business Max include 30 kg. For ordinary non-group JQ travel before 2 February 2027, standard cabin allowance is two items totalling 7 kg, with eligible upgrades to 14 kg. From that departure date, new bookings made from 5 August 2026 include an underseat bag up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm; an overhead bag needs Priority Carry-on or an eligible inclusion. Older unchanged non-group bookings receive Priority Carry-on, while rescheduling across the cutoff can change the allowance. Groups of ten or more have a separate underseat rule from 1 January 2027 and a codeshare-group exception. Travel-agent inclusions can differ: use your confirmed ticket’s allowance. A JQ/GK connection can use different cabin rules on the two sectors; verify the itinerary rather than applying JQ’s rule to GK.
How much checked baggage can I add on Jetstar?
Jetstar publishes checked-baggage options from 15 kg to 40 kg in 5 kg steps. No individual bag can exceed 32 kg, so heavier total allowances must be split. The amount charged depends on the route, allowance and when it is added; there is no single fixed price for every booking. Without a pre-purchased allowance, airport charges start with up to 15 kg and add further weight charges. At most two oversized items are allowed per passenger per flight, with separate handling fees and size conditions, and airport acceptance depends on capacity. For a multi-country journey, check baggage transfer and any different operating carrier’s allowance.
When does Jetstar airport check-in close?
Jetstar Airways airport check-in and bag drop for domestic flights from domestic terminals open two hours before departure and close 40 minutes before departure. For international flights they open three hours before departure and close one hour before departure. Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure; Jetstar asks you to be at the gate earlier. Australian domestic flights from international terminals also close check-in one hour before departure and require extra identification procedures. Follow the scheduled deadlines unless Jetstar specifically tells you they have changed. Use the operating airline’s own timeline where an international itinerary combines JQ and GK.
When does Jetstar online check-in open?
Jetstar Airways online check-in for Australia and New Zealand domestic flights opens 48 hours before departure and closes 40 minutes before departure. Selected JQ international flights allow it from 48 hours to two hours before departure. Passenger and flight exclusions apply, and domestic departures from international terminals do not permit online check-in. Even with a boarding pass, use the counter or bag drop when documents or checked baggage require it; online check-in does not extend airport deadlines. GK has its own check-in windows and exceptions; the JQ times above should not be applied to a Japan domestic connection.
How do I manage or change my Jetstar booking?
Jetstar change and cancellation rights depend on the fare actually purchased. Starter changes attract a change fee and any fare difference before the relevant deadline. Eligible Flex, Flex Plus, Business and Business Max products include date and time changes, but fare differences and other service charges can remain. Starter and standard Business generally exclude voluntary cancellation refunds; qualifying Flex products provide a voucher, while Business Max permits a refund to the original payment method with a fee and request deadline. Check the Traveloka ticket’s conditions, because travel-agent inclusions can differ from direct product guides. Open the Traveloka booking details and follow the request options for the actual ticket; retain the updated itinerary once the change is accepted.
What seat types can I choose on Jetstar?
Jetstar offers Standard, Upfront and Extra Legroom seats where available. Upfront means nearer the front; Extra Legroom provides additional space and may be in an exit row with safety eligibility requirements. A Starter fare charges for chosen seating, or assigns a seat at check-in without an extra selection fee. Eligible bundles include specified seat categories. Check the actual fare and seat map, particularly for pregnancy, lap infants or assistance needs, and allow for an aircraft change affecting the original selection. For a multi-sector trip, select seats separately on each available seat map and check the operator’s conditions.
Can children fly alone on Jetstar?
Jetstar does not provide an unaccompanied minor supervision service. A young passenger on JQ must attend or be enrolled in secondary school with proof, or be at least 12 with proof of age, and satisfy the independent-traveller requirements. On JQ international flights, the young traveller should carry a valid passport and have a parent or guardian present throughout check-in; unclear permission can prevent check-in. Under-14 passengers on Vietnam routes must have a suitable accompanying passenger, and GK connections have additional rules. A child who needs supervision must travel with an appropriate companion. For a connection involving GK or Vietnam, check the additional young-passenger conditions before booking the full journey.
Can I earn Qantas Points on Jetstar flights?
Jetstar Airways does not operate a separate frequent flyer points program. Qantas Points and Status Credits depend on eligible fares and bundles, not merely the Jetstar brand. Current direct guides list eligibility for Flex, Flex Plus and Business Max, while ordinary Starter and standard Business have different treatment; New Zealand domestic Starter fares have a Qantas Points exception. Verify the exact fare eligibility and membership details for the ticket offered through Traveloka before relying on rewards. For an itinerary containing several airlines, verify earning eligibility sector by sector and retain the fare information.
Who owns Jetstar Airways?
Jetstar Airways is wholly owned by the Qantas Group. It started with Australian domestic services, including Newcastle to Melbourne, and expanded into New Zealand and international flying. Jetstar Japan is a separate partnership involving Qantas, Japan Airlines and Tokyo Century. Jetstar Asia, the former Singapore-based 3K carrier, has permanently ceased operations; that closure did not close Jetstar Airways JQ services. JQ, GK and the closed 3K business are distinct; read the operating code on every segment of an international ticket.
Can I bring my pet on a Jetstar flight?
Jetstar does not carry ordinary pets in the cabin or hold. Accredited service dogs may travel with approval and the required booking, documentation and entry arrangements. For international service-dog travel, arrange the declaration at least 14 days before departure. Jetstar’s service-dog conditions exclude travel to or from Thailand. Emotional-support, comfort or therapy animals do not qualify automatically as service dogs. If another airline operates a connecting sector, get its separate acceptance and entry arrangements before booking.
