Here are the steps to book Thai Airways tickets online:
Payments for Thai Airways tickets can be made via bank transfer, and credit card.
For more information regarding available payment methods, please visit the Payment Methods page.
The Thai Airways e-ticket serves as proof of your booking for Thai Airways flights. Show your e-ticket at the Thai Airways counter during check-in (either at the airport or online) to get your boarding pass. If you do not receive your e-ticket within 60 minutes after making payment, please contact Traveloka Customer Service immediately.
Thai Airways International is the national carrier of Thailand. It flies under the IATA code TG and the ICAO code THA, and is run by Thai Airways International Public Company Limited from its headquarters in Bangkok. Its hub is Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), and almost every journey on the network passes through it. Many travellers simply call the airline THAI, the name painted on its aircraft, and you will often see TG flights listed that way on boards and booking screens.
For travellers coming from anywhere in the world, Thai Airways works in two ways. It is a direct way into Thailand, with domestic flights onward to Phuket, Chiang Mai and other cities. It is also a one-stop connection between Asia, Australia and Europe, with Bangkok as the transfer point. As a founding member of Star Alliance, it links into a much larger partner network for journeys that go beyond its own routes. This page covers how the airline works in practice: the fleet, the baggage rules, check-in, cabins and special services, and how to book TG flights on Traveloka.
For a ticket bought on Traveloka, open My Booking to find the issued e-ticket, passenger details and airline reference. Check whether ticketing is confirmed before treating a payment receipt as a ticket. The Traveloka booking ID and the airline booking reference serve different systems; use the reference identified for the airline.
THAI's Manage Booking form accepts an airline booking reference or ticket number together with the passenger's last name. Finding a reservation does not make its fare refundable or guarantee that every agency-issued ticket can be changed through the airline's website. Start reschedule and refund requests for a Traveloka-issued ticket through Traveloka, following the purchased fare conditions.
The fleet is mostly widebody, with a growing narrowbody group for regional and domestic flying. The airline's own fleet page lists eight aircraft types:
Which aircraft you get decides a lot about the trip. It sets whether a business seat is flat or a recliner, whether Premium Economy exists on the flight, and whether wifi is offered. The aircraft type is shown when you select a flight, so it is worth a glance before you choose between two departure times.
Thai Airways runs a hub-and-spoke network. Flights from across Asia and Australia land at Suvarnabhumi, and onward flights leave for other parts of the region and Europe. These are some of the most-booked routes on the network, each with its own page on Traveloka:
The real value of the network is in the combinations. An itinerary from Australia to Europe, or from Southeast Asia to North Asia, can be built as one ticket with a single change at Suvarnabhumi. For a connecting itinerary, check the operating carriers, ticket conditions and baggage instructions for the complete journey. Through-checking and disruption assistance depend on the actual itinerary; separate tickets may require collecting bags and checking in again. Alliance membership alone does not establish those benefits for every combination.
Thai Airways counts checked baggage by the piece. How many pieces you get, and how heavy each one can be, depends on your cabin and your fare family. On international flights the free allowance looks like this:
Every checked bag must stay within 158 cm when you add up length, width and height, wheels and handles included. On flights wholly within Thailand, each passenger gets one piece: 32 kg in Royal Silk and 23 kg in every Economy fare.
Each passenger may carry one cabin bag of up to 7 kg, no larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm. You can also bring a small personal item, such as a handbag or a laptop bag of up to 1.5 kg. Liquids follow the usual rule of containers of 100 ml or less in one clear resealable bag of up to one litre.
Royal Orchid Plus elite members get extra pieces on top of the fare allowance. Platinum members get two extra pieces, Gold members and Star Alliance Gold members get one, and Silver members get one 23 kg piece.
Extra pieces can be prepaid online before you fly, and a fee applies that depends on the zones you fly between. One golf set or one bicycle per passenger can count as part of the normal allowance, as long as it is packed to the airline's rules. Bulky items such as canoes or windsurf boards must be requested at least three working days ahead. Flights to and from Australia and New Zealand allow one surfboard within the allowance.
There are three ways to check in, and the one you choose decides how early you need to reach the airport.
Check-in opens 24 hours before departure on the Thai Airways website and app. You can pick or confirm a seat and save a mobile boarding pass. At Suvarnabhumi, passengers who check in on their phone can drop bags at the self bag drop in rows D and E on the fourth floor. Online check-in is not open to everyone. Passengers who need a wheelchair or medical help, children flying alone, and anyone travelling with a pet, sports equipment or oversized bags must check in at the counter.
Self-service kiosks accept check-in from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before take-off. Once you have your boarding pass, you can use the same self bag drop.
On international flights the counter closes 50 minutes before departure. On domestic flights it closes 40 minutes before. The boarding gate closes 10 minutes before take-off on both. Those are hard cut-offs, so allow time for queues, security and passport control. If you have an exit-row seat, you must check in at the counter so staff can confirm you are eligible.
Up to four cabins are offered, depending on the aircraft. Most flights carry two: Royal Silk and Economy.
Royal First is found only on a small group of Boeing 777-300ERs. Each semi-private suite is 24 inches wide and turns into a fully flat bed with up to seven feet of space. In Bangkok, the service starts at the kerb, with a porter, a private check-in, an escort through security and immigration, and the Royal First Lounge. On board, passengers get designer travel kits, sleepwear on intercontinental flights, and a menu that can be pre-selected at least 72 hours before departure from Bangkok.
Royal Silk is the airline's business class and its main premium cabin. Seats recline to a flat bed on every widebody and on the A321neo. The A320 is the exception, where Royal Silk is a recliner. On the A350-900 the cabin is laid out 1-2-1, so nobody climbs over a neighbour. Royal Silk passengers get dedicated check-in, fast-track security and immigration in Bangkok, and access to lounges run by the airline and its partners.
Premium Economy is offered on one version of the Airbus A330-300. It gives more legroom, wider seats with leg rests and wider armrests, a dedicated crew and an upgraded meal and bar service.
Economy seating and legroom vary by aircraft and seat position. On longer regional and intercontinental flights every passenger gets a pillow and blanket, with eye shades and earplugs on request. The entertainment library has roughly 150 films, 300 TV programmes and a large music collection.
Thai-inspired cooking runs through every cabin, alongside international dishes. More than 20 special meal types can be ordered for health, religious or dietary reasons, including Muslim, kosher, Jain, gluten-free, diabetic, child and baby meals. Onboard wifi, branded THAI Sky Connect, is offered on the A350-900, the 787-8 and 787-9, the 777-300ER version with Royal First and the A330-300 version with Premium Economy, though not on every aircraft of those types. It is free for Royal First and Royal Silk passengers and for Royal Orchid Plus members.
Babies younger than 14 days cannot fly. Bassinets are offered for babies under six months who weigh under 10 kg and are no longer than 67 cm. The service is not available on flights within Thailand or on flights to and from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Malaysia. Infants must be held during take-off and landing. An approved child car seat can be used on a paid seat for children under two.
The unaccompanied minor service is required for children aged 5 to 11 in Economy. In Royal Silk and Royal First it is open only to children aged 8 to 11. It is optional for anyone aged 12 to 17. On international routes the child pays an adult fare plus a per-flight service fee. The airline will not carry a child alone on an itinerary with an overnight stop or a transfer of more than six hours. The same applies to a transfer between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang. The service is also not available on codeshare flights with four-digit TG numbers.
Wheelchair service is free and should be requested when booking, or at least 48 hours before departure. Staff help from the check-in counter to the aircraft, and from the aircraft through arrivals. Personal wheelchairs over 32 kg need special approval.
Pets are not accepted in the cabin. The exception is trained service dogs at least six months old, which fly free with 48 hours' notice. Dogs and cats can travel in a temperature-controlled hold on the same flight as their owner, with conditions. Animals must be older than four months on international flights. The service is not offered on the A320, and snub-nosed breeds are not accepted. Pets cannot travel this way to or from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney, or to Auckland, Denpasar, Dubai or Hong Kong.
Royal Orchid Plus is the airline's frequent flyer programme. Members earn and redeem miles on TG flights and across Star Alliance. The Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers add extra baggage, priority services and lounge access.
What you can change, and what it costs, depends on the fare family you bought. In Economy the families run from Saver and Standard up to Flexi and Full Flex. The higher families give more freedom to change dates and to get money back. The lower ones may allow changes only with a fee and any difference in fare, and may be non-refundable. The full conditions appear on the booking screen before you pay and in your confirmation.
If you booked on Traveloka, start any change from My Booking in the app or on the website. You can check your ticket status there, ask for a reschedule and see whether a fee or fare difference applies, or request a refund where your fare allows one. Optional extras follow their own rules. Prepaid Preferred Seats are non-refundable, though the purchase can be reused on the same route. Prepaid extra baggage is also non-refundable.
If the airline cancels a flight or changes the schedule significantly, passengers are normally offered another flight at no extra cost, or a refund of the unused part of the ticket. Traveloka's customer support can help you choose between the options.
Traveloka puts TG flights alongside other options on one screen, so you can see the trade-off between departure time, connection length, fare family and price before you decide. A few things make it a practical place to book:
