One of the busiest railway stations in the world, Shibuya Station has served millions and millions of commuters daily. Located in the central hub of Tokyo it can be said as the busiest place in Tokyo, which also acts as the main station where you’re going to get through a lot.

Holding luggage might be troubling, especially if you get to Shibuya Station too early and it’s still not time for you to check in to your hotel. Because of that concern, Japan has made public store luggage to make your trip more convenient by storing all of your belongings and luggage in a locker that is locked in a safe environment while you enjoy exploring the area.

Some places where you can store your luggage in Shibuya Station.

There are several coin lockers available in the JR Shibuya Station area, including the one located between the Hachiko Exit and the Western Exit of JR Shibuya Station.

Once you find the exit located between the Hachiko exit and the Western exit, you will be welcomed by a large number of wall lockers in several different sizes that are available to rent.

But please be reminded that the Hachiko Exit area is usually pretty crowded because the place is the exit close to many popular tourist destinations, so there is a possibility where the locker is full or, the size of locker you are looking for is available. If you want to use this specific locker, it is recommended for you to book them beforehand.

JR Shibuya Station on New South Gate Exit

Another option is located in JR Shibuya Station, one of them is located at the New South Gate Exit which is usually much less crowded than the other coin locker. The place might probably be a bit far compared to the other locker coins, but it is also relatively empty which allows visitors to choose their own locker with more size options.

This place is recommended if you have not booked a locker beforehand.

Western Exit of JR Shibuya Station (above the ground)

The relatively cheap locker is located in JR Shibuya Station. This specific locker can easily be found by following the Moyai statues located right beside the wall of the locker.

Shibuya Mark City

Shibuya Mark City itself is a large, multi-purpose complex located in the heart of Shibuya that is directly connected to Shibuya Station. Within the building, you can find a hundred and hundred lockers nestled throughout the shopping mall. Various sizes of lockers are available in each of the mall levels, which makes it convenient for storing your luggage while exploring the shopping mall, and Shibuya district overall.

Two main locations might interest you to book, from the one in the basement which offers refrigerated coin lockers, designed for storing perishable items, and the other one is located on the 4th floor with a higher number of lockers available to use.

Shibuya Chikamichi (Shibuya Hikari to Shibuya 109)

Another locker available to use is located in an underground passageway also known as Shibuya Chikamichi by the locals that connects Shibuya Hikari to the iconic Shibuya 109 building. Here, you will be able to find a dedicated luggage storage counter situated on the B1 floor by following the signs from Shibuya Hikari or Shibuya 109.

Keio Shibuya Station

The next place on the list is the Keio Shibuya Station located under the escalator to the right. To make it easier for you to find the storage, you only need to go to the 2F exit through the central gate and get off the escalator to the right.

In this specific coin locker, you can find 4 different sizes of locker from small to large that are available to save your luggage before beginning your exploration throughout Shibuya district.

Locker Type Available in Shibuya

There are two types of lockers in Shibuya that you can find throughout the district.

The first one is the key-type coin locker, which uses the old system by lending you a key to lock your safe and payment using cash rather than a card like an IC card.

How to use:

1. Choose the locker you want to use and put your luggage into the locker.

2. Close the door tightly, and pay the right amount into the locker.

3. Once you get the amount right, the key will be able to be pulled out from the place, and you are ready to go.

The other type is the touchscreen-type coin locker which is a more modern locker where you can use cash or card for the payment.

How to use:

1. Choose the locker you want to use and put your luggage into the locker.

2. Choose the payment method, which can either be cash or card based on your references.

3. Close the door tightly, and pay the right amount into the locker.

4. If you choose cash for payment, they will print a receipt for you, along with the password of the locker. Take care of them and don’t lose them. If you use an IC card, you can just use the same card later on.

5. Once you want to take back your luggage, you can just input the password or scan the same IC card that you used before to unlock the locker.

Here is all the information you need when you need to use some of the coin lockers available throughout Shibuya Station.
