Great trendy little hotel with jazz music playing in the lobby and beautiful courtyard, with little extras like citrus water in the lobby and a coffee bar set up in the courtyard in the morning. Great place to stay!
However, because the in-room heating system is the original to the building, expect noise when it is running. You get used to it though and don’t need it running much.

The front desk staff (female) was very unfriendly and had a terrible attitude. I live walking distance from this hotel and often book for this hotel for business associates but I did not realize how bad the customer service was until this very last reservation when I accompanied my client to check in.

I can recommend this hotel. The only negative experience we had related to check-in. We arrived one hour before the official check-in time and were told by the reception that they would need another hour to "get the room ready." So, we sat down in the very nice hotel restaurant for late lunch -- all good -- and came back 90 minutes later only to learn that the rooms were still not ready--this was past the official check-in time, with no explanation given by the receptionist, and no apologies. Not cool. We complained to the manager, and suddenly our room was ready.

We were looking for a hotel near both the Academy Museum and Petersen Museum and Short Stories was walking distance to both as well as the Farmer Market and the Grove. Our rooms room was clean and well appointed, the invisible non-slip strips in the shower were clever and we had a nice meal in the restaurant.

The hotel is very nice although rooms are smallish. Hotel staff was great. Only issue was that they hosted a private party in their dining area the first night that they allowed to flow into the parking area right outside the hotel rooms. The party was loud and boisterous and continued to well after midnight. The next morning I notified management and they were kind enough to comp the night’s charge. Would definitely stay here again
