It was a nice enough room for the price but missed not having an en-suite bathroom in the room

This was the 2nd time staying here and unfortunately we got the same room number 17. To use the shower you need to kneel in the bath, the toilet was constantly making noises as though it was filling itself overnight, it was making the noise when we arrived, we did ask if we could change rooms but the very nice girl on reception said it would be another £20 (on checking their website the only room available was only £12 more than we had paid) we declined. Unfortunately we won't be staying here again

Property itself is a a great price. BUT... The beds are very hard with lumps in. I had to get out of the double and lay in single as it was a little better. The rooms are SO noisy. Main front door slamming with people coming in and out. Creaky stairs and floorboards above which let you hear all conversations and thumping around as people walk around the room. Slept really bad :(

we spent 2 nights here, it was ok, the loo has a macerator so was quite noisy to flush, and smelt a bit damp in the bathroom, it was clean and towels provided, I was worried the shower unit was going to come off the wall, was very loose, the shower head is old, and sprays everywhere, the carpet could do with being replaced, street noise from people and traffic, there is a Chinese and Italian restaurant close by, and was very handy location for the university open day!

A fairly basic hotel in a nice location next to the Cathedral. Easy walk to the sea front, town centre and Gun Wharf Keys It was perfect for what I was after. Good value too

The hotel is conveniently placed in Old Portsmouth. The receptionist was efficient and pleasant. The hotel itself is on the basic side of basic, but it is clean, the bed is sound and there is a kettle in the room. The shower room was remarkably compact. Note that it is only a hotel - the main ground floor premises are a (separate) pizza parlour, Florio's. The "pub sign" shows Florio's name, not The Duke of Buckingham's.

Quite noisy, I was in room I which was at the front of the building on the main road and the window didn’t seem too keep out much of the noise from traffic and passing people. It was also the room which although it had its own toilet and shower, backed in to the shared bathroom for the floor where someone decided to take a shower at 2.30am which was so noisy I could here through my earplugs. Duvet cover had stains on it and room was very worn and tired looking. Thank goodness I was literally just there to sleep!

We stayed at the 'cottage' part of the hotel (converted garage at the back of the main building) which was perfectly fine once we found it - we checked in after the reception closed and the directions were not 100% clear. We phoned the night guard who was very helpful. The room was comfortable and clean enough, apart from some random cardboard left in the bin. The shower was not particularly intuitive but perfectly fine once we got it to work. There was a complicated- looking and clearly broken contraption to operate the windows. We managed to close them by hand. Quite happy with the hotel in general, it was fine for a one night stay.
