Built in 1782 as the residence of King Rama I, the Grand Palace is one of the most-visited tourist attractions in Bangkok. Visitors are welcome to explore the impressive palace grounds and buildings which are now used to host royal ceremonies and state visits. Wat Phra Kaew, commonly known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is also located within the palace complex. Note that visitors are expected to dress modestly within the palace grounds.
