After I booked at this place got a written notice that the premises were impacted by a noise problem. The problem and its cause were described. Missing from this notice about the notice was that it was 24/7 and that it was very, very loud. Large pipes were being dropped on concrete and there was near constant jack hammering. I measured the sound level at the entrance to the balcony, it was 72 dB , putting it in the range of very loud music. The owner of the site had 'compensated' for this by providing ear plugs, to supposedly help peoples sleep at night. Under Australian consumer law a good or service must be fit for service. This room and this place was not fit for purpose and the owner knew that when they took my booking. I left there the same day that I arrived. I did not stay any nights there. I am asking for a full refund. How can the owners of Abbey on Roma Street improve their offering of accommodation? By being fully, frankly and brutally honest about the very high noise levels on their website. Consumer of goods and services have a right to be fully informed before they make choices

It is dated and the room smelt weird but what do you expect for the price. Great location and quiet, spacious and secure room. Fine for the night and to explore Brisbane on foot. Couldn't be closer to Roma St Station and airport train.

There was constant construction going on and I had to use ear plugs to sleep. The property wasn’t in the best shape and rooms very fairly old with the aircon making a lot of noise

We had stayed at Abbey on our last visit to Brisbane 6 years ago and remember being pleasantly surprised at the size and facilities for the money. However, despite booking a 'superior ' apartment it was definitely a step down from our previous room. After verifying with reception that we had actually been given a 'superior ' room, we stated our dissatisfaction and, to be fair, were moved to a 'deluxe ' room at no extra cost for our next 2 nights which was an improvement. From what I was told Abbey manage the building but the individual apartments are owned by a variety of different people so it's a bit pot luck what quality of room you get. Which is a shame as it's a convenient location being literally over the road from the Roma street railway station and a short walk from the King George area with all it's shops and eateries. It is of course at the lower end of the budget scale but the 2 star rating is more of a reflection of our disappointment compared to our previous experience.

Bed was not queen type but just placing 2 single beds side by side, which is uncomfortable due to pocket in the middle. Road work was performed through the night and too noisy to sleep. It’s not hotel issue, but I would recommend guest to consider it.

We were going to the rugby at Suncorp stadium so very convenient. The property was spacious but very tired and in need of an upgrade. It didn’t smell fresh but stale. The windows are single glazed and faced onto Roma St station. This has major building works which go on loudly until all hours. Curtains are thin and don’t keep out the light. Reception staff pleasant and helpful.

I would not recommend staying at this hotel until the work at the train station is completed. They do not have any type of glazed windows and the works sounded like they went all night, especially at 4am!!! Maybe request a room that doesn't face the station for a good nights sleep or stay away until.

Getting in was a problem. had to ring for assistance. Amenities in the room very basic. Could not get on to the balcony. As we booked in late at 8pm and left early at 6am we did not encounter any staff. As we were told there was noise but not over the top.The only good thing is the convenience to the train!
