Holiday Inn BIRMINGHAM CITY CENTRE, an IHG Hotel

It was a cold winter day. We were allocated a room with no heating, but a small electric heater was already in the room. It didn't do much and the central heating was out of order. We asked for it to be rectified and they brought us another tiny heater. When we complained, we were moved to a warm room! result! the breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly. And of course, the location is great for the travelling and shopping.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent stay. My room was located directly opposite the lift, leading to constant noise from inconsiderate guests. The view from the room was of loud extractor fans, which made it nearly impossible to sleep. To make matters worse, the room was freezing. Even with a small oil heater, I had to request an additional duvet, which took an hour to arrive. This experience has unfortunately overshadowed my previously positive stays. I usually find Holiday Inn to be excellent and accommodating, especially as someone with a disability, but this time it fell far short of expectations. I am unsure if I would recommend it to others or if I would choose to stay here again.

When we were allocated the room, we found out that the safe didnt work, we informed reception and they said someone would come and fix it but nobody did, the room was advertised to have a fridge but it didn't and the pillows on the bed were like concrete slabs. Although the room had ben recently renovated i was disappointed with some aspects of the room. We have stayed at this hotel multiple times and never had any issues so needless to say we were disappointed as we were there a birthday weekend. On a positive note the breakfast was fantastic as normal.

Lovely place, nice staff, good location. Beware of the car parking, £30 per night not the £12.50 per night on-site covered parking as was described to me (screen shot at booking). They do have off site parking for the lower price.

We had booked for 3 nights, unfortunately storm Darragh meant our flight to Birmingham was cancelled and rebooked for the following day. I informed the hotel of this and that we would be arriving a day late. When we arrived the hotel had cancelled our entire booking and it took quite a while to find and reactivate the reservation. Not a good start, when we got to the room there were no towels (apparently, according to housekeeping there was a shortage) however these did arrive quite quickly. On the plus side the hotel was very convenient to the train station, was clean and well maintained and the room was very comfortable. Breakfast was included and was of a high standard with plenty of choice

We had a weekend stay, the room was clean and comfortable and all the staff we met were polite and helpful. Breakfast is worth the additional cost but book with your room / stay. The hotel is very central and very close to the train station. The only downside is it can be quite noisey, but you get used to this and ear plugs are provided if you are a light sleeper.

Room was clean and large. Had to wait a while at check in as large queues. Bed was a little too hard for my liking. Breakfast was excellent.

It just proves the old adage that not all hotels from the same brand are not equal. This is the case with this hotel. I booked a "Junior Suite" that worked out at £458.00 for two nights that to be honest was way over the top for what you actually got. I have stayed in other Holiday Inn's and got much better value for money than this one. The strange thing was that despite it just having a major refit, the room was battered already. There was a chunk out of the carpet, the table was badly chipped, the seating in the lounge was worn and tired looking already and windows were not that clean. Also the room was spartan compared to other hotels I have stayed in. A picture or two would have helped. However the walls were just white, white and white broken up by some fabric panelling. It just needed something to make not look like a hospital ward. The irony is that the entrance with it's new "home" look and the funky corridor carpets are really welcoming and look good, but as soon as you're in your room it's simply not nice and I got cabin fever in about half and hour! I was supposed to hold a business meeting there but it was so unwelcoming I chose to hold it the local Spoons at New Street Station! IGT really needs to get their interior designers to do more beyond the lobby areas. Good thing is the breakfast which is always excellent and the choice is massive with Full English or Continental although there were issued with the coffee/ea machines. Staff were good and helpful!

Very pleasant and convenient location

The location in proximity to the train station was great, however the surrounding area felt run down and dirty. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room itself was very tired and needed a refurb! The bed was incredibly soft and not the most comfortable. It was very noisy overnight with drunk guests running up and down the corridor and making a lot of noise!! And fights outside didn’t help the noise levels! Overall the experience here was just average.
