Château Le Vergel - Authenac

Be warned: Most important for me on holiday is comfort. Unfortunately this place doesn't offer such luxury, especially when the temperature rises above 30 degrees. Then this place is full of nasty surprises. - No air-conditioning in the houses because of which the temperatures at the top floor are so hot that you cannot sleep there. My wife ended up sleeping on the leather couch in the living room. Opening windows in the evening does not help and you end up with leaves from the trees on your bed. - Absurdly high imprint/deposit of 350 euros for which we had to wait an entire month to have it unlocked. The owner blamed foreign banks for this (?!?). If every accommodation in France would do this, you'd be stuck with over 1000 euros blocked on your account for a month. - The wasp problem at the swimming pool is painful to see. At least about fifty wasps buzzing around there. Accommodation takes half measures by placing wasp traps. Same with ants. Upon the first morning ants were crawling through the house aiming for a box of cornflakes. We ended up placing all our food and drinks in the fridge but they still came for the trash. Vacuum cleaning for me twice a day. Accommodation said that they could place ant traps. Another half measure. - Accommodation demands that you clean the place upon departure. This is fair but if you decide to take the cleaning service (prices start at 90 euros), you still have to bring your own trash to the trash bin, which is roughly 350 meters from the accommodation. Happy driving with your trash in this hot weather. - The accommodation could do some cleaning themselves on the premises. The whole courtyard and little front garden are littered with dead leaves from the trees, giving the place a somber look. - Very weak wifi. Sensitive phones don't stand a chance. - One of the owners was super friendly to us. The other one seemed to think we were prisoners of sorts and did not deem us worthy to speak to and just waved us away to his colleague. Very rude. The place felt to me like a labour camp and not a holiday accommodation. If these people want to be taken seriously, they should work on improving the place and services and not only rely on the great location.

Chateau Le Vergel Authenac is situated perfectly in the countryside far from any distractions and provides peaceful and serene surroundings for a soothing stay. The hosts and staff were professional and polite. Even with our lacking proficiency in french they were patient and made communicating easy. The chateau is charming and walking in the park breathing in the country air is very refreshing! Breakfast was served in the courtyard and was plentiful and well chosen. Our studio had a patio with chairs and deckchairs and relaxing here in either sun or shade was perfect! A dip in the pool during the warmer days of july was just what we needed.

Lovely place to stay, beautiful apartment with ample space for our little family of 3. The pool was nice and cooling, but there was quite a lot of wasps which didn’t bother us as they’re important creatures for bio diversity. Jean-Louis was kind, attentive and recommended places to eat & visit. The breakfast was the best we’ve had in the region, coffee was superb, our daughter, Tanzi said the hot chocolate was better than her father’s, praise indeed! We will be coming back, merci!

Horribly rude communication from this horror hotel. We would like to make a reservation. We asked if it was possible to do this without a credit card. Of course we paid the room amount in advance, in full. It was a question! We got the rude answer who we wanted to make believe that we don't have a credit card? EXCUSE ME? There are also people who do not like to be in the red numbers with banking institutions and who own normal bank cards and cash. How dare you communicate to guests like that. Disgusting company.

we loved our stay here. the rooms are spacious & stylish, and the owners were friendly & accommodating to our last-minute booking. highly recommend !
