Stadt-gut-Hotel Rheinischer Hof

The rooms were great. The breakfast was stellar!!! Loved the filtered coffee, free water, bag lunch, nice area in close proximity to transports and a wonderful little Christmas market! Great great great!!!

This is a very wonderful hotel. Is has a Goethe theme, with many books, and posters of Faust and Mephisto films. The room we has was small but adequate, it was very clean and the beds are fine. The area is quiet but very near a local restaurant area which is more popular with hipster and yuppie and alternative folk than the actual Essen city centre. It is also very near the Folkwang Museum. The most wonderful was the staff, totally dedicated to take care of the guests. Breakfast was very wonderful, so many delicious things AND a lunchbag was provided for free with sandwiches, fruit, chocolate bar, candy, a drink and an egg. Also! This is one of the six Ruhr area hotels that provide free daypasses for all local public transport. We could even use this pass to return to Arnhem by train for free. We were ocerwhelmed by the hospitality of this hotel, its owner and the staff. Will certainly come back.

This is not a 5 star hotel but my rating reflects the quality compared to others of this class (3*). The rooms are kind of variable. If you are low and on the front you may have street noise (the hotel is on a crossing) and the single rooms can be quite small. If you are up or at the back, on a double room they are ample. The breakfast buffet is great and frankly is better than some 5* hotels. The downside is there is no lift but reception does offer to help if you need it (but you still need to get yourself up those stairs to the first or even fourth floors) and whilst the breakfast room is open, the bar/restaurant attached is closed due to the Covid crisis. However, there is plenty nearby where you can either way in or take out.

The hotel is absolutely amazing!!! It is a bit smaller then others in surrounding area but it is so charming that the walls just disappear. Personnel of the hotel are great, they speak english and they will make you a breakfast at 4 am when you have to leave yo catch your flight. Breakfast is better than in lot of 5 stars hotels and the amount of food diversity is beyond speaking. When ever I come to near by region I will take this hotel!

Super location, great service. Rooms are very basic.... Comfortable. Super quality breakfast.
