Hvammstangi Hill Homes

We loved our stay at the Hvammstangi Hill Homes - it was quiet and the house very clean and cozy. We even saw the northern lights from the side of the house last night!

The units had a nice kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom. They're in a small town, and away from both the ring road and the main street in town enough that you won't hear any noise.

Great family vacation stopover spot. Very clean. There’s a small utility room with a clothesline to dry your suit if coming from an outdoor hot spring visit. Know that most rentals in the area have hot spring hot water systems that will smell like well water, not something that can be helped to my knowledge. Just saying to point out it isn’t an issue to be concerned with. There is a pretty full kitchen as pictured and picnic table out front. The grocery store in town closes early and opens late, so get your provisions early if that’s your plan. There’s a great seafood restaurant next door if you miss the timing. The walk into town from the unit along a small waterfall stream and park was really pleasant and makes the area feel much more walkable. If you are planning on seal watching in the area, many of the roads are not paved as of June 2024, so plan on double the time your gps claims. Many of the spots are closed due to tourists scaring the seals away, so do some research first. If pointing out anything to improve, the unit’s bedroom has two twin bed frames that can spread apart some if using as a single bed. Many European flats have two twins as a single queen/full, but often with one big frame to keep them from drifting apart.

A very cozy place to stay. Cute town. The house was very warm (good for cold summers, not so great for a summer night). Wasn’t sure how to turn down the thermostat. WiFi worked great. Everything is explained in the handy-dandy notebook. Bring your own coffee/tea/sugar for the morning. The laundry at the local swimming pool charges 2500ISK for a load (?!?!).

Despite initial skepticism, renting at this location exceeded my expectations. The space was fantastic, it was very spacious, a full apartment to yourself, no complaints about this.

My only complaint is the place did not have any coffee. We had to go 6 miles for a cup of coffee the next morning. No coffee in the village at all until 9:30

We have stayed here before and it is a convenient location when driving to or from the north or west. Easy to access and the host gives good instructions. There are 2 induction rings and a microwave. Filter coffee machine but no coffee provided as is normal in Iceland. No oven. Grocery shop nearby. Swimming pool nearby. There are no boat trips to view seals anymore but the Seal Centre can give you a map of places to drive to. Cabin is comfortable, quiet, warm and has good blackout curtains. All was clean. Had two small hand towels provided which was only negative.

The apartment is very big and equipped. The water wasn't smell good. There very too much mosquitoes.

We had to change our plans and the host really helped us to move our stay to another night on short notice. Takk
