This was simply a mind-blowing experience. This is a converted castle sitting right in the middle of wine country. During the day you look across the valley at vineyards as you stroll through the grounds of the castle. At night the castle is lit beautifully, you may as well be staying in a museum. The rooms are modern and gorgeous. They have a ton of space and all of the modern amenities you could want. We had a lovely breakfast in the dining hall. This hall is straight out of a magazine. The fireplace at the end is two stories tall surrounded by couches. At the other end is a kitchen where the staff made us a fresh breakfast. Dario and the rest of the staff were attentive and helpful. We got a tour of the wine cellar and they made sure we were comfortable. I wish we could have stayed longer.

This small hotel is a gem nested in the Sicilan countryside. The renovation of the old stones house has been achieved with the best of taste, incorporating modern facilities perfectly. Completed with a delicious kitchen it is the perfect stay for a couple to relax and enjoy well deserved quietness. Service is great, comfort is top-notch, it’s close to the Palermo’s airport and the sea front while located in rolling wine-yard covered hills. Will stay again.

5 star Hotel, 2 star service. Beautiful Hotel, but the service left a lot to be desired. Upon arrival the receptionist greeted us with "Documents please". No pleasantries, no asking about our trip or any other attempt at conversation. We went down to the bar/restaurant to order some wine. The night porter was friendly enough, but seemed quite confused when it came to wine and as a result we got a different bottle to the one we ordered, but no matter, it was still nice. While there we noticed a table which had a breakfast menu on it, at a quick glance we could see various egg options and other things like pancakes, so we were looking forward to a nice breakfast the next morning. When we arrived for breakfast there were no tables set. We thought perhaps one of the staff might seat us, but no, we were ignored. We took some fruit from the buffet and seated ourselves outside. Eventually the waiter came and set the table. We assumed he would return with the menus we had seen the night before, but no he never returned, so eventually I went inside to ask if they had any eggs or cooked options. "Yes, scrambled, fried or omelette" so I ordered scrambled eggs. They arrived quickly enough and they were nice. Next we wanted some coffee. We thought maybe the waiter would come back to check on us or at least clear our plates. We should have known by now! Once more I had to go inside to request something, where the multiple staff were standing around chatting amongst themselves. I must stress that the place was not busy - there was only one other couple besides ourselves, who left shortly after we arrived. When checking out we checked the bill and found that we had been charged for a more expensive bottle of wine than the one we received. The receptionist clearly didn't take our word for it though as she went over to the bar to find the empty bottle that had been left behind. It was of course the one we had said. None of these things are awful by themselves, but the general poor service put a bit of a dampener on the last night of our holiday when we were hoping to end it on a high in a so-called Luxury Resort.

A beautiful property, near Alcamo, half-an-hour drive from Palermo airport mostly on the A29. Contrary to Google Maps, we advise to leave the freeway at the Gallitello exit, an not at the Alcamo Ovest one, and then follow the SS119 Gibellina straight to the Baglio Passofondo. The property is surrounded by vineyards, and ideally located for visiting Selinunte, Marsala, Trapani, Segesta, and Castellammare del Golfo. Gregory, the chef of the property restaurant is by far the best in the area; the tasting menu at the chef's table is a unique experience that we strongly recommend : we believe that the Michelin Guide will soon discover Gregory's genius. The entire staff made us feel warmly welcome and part of the "famiglia". Definitely a serendipitous discovery.
