We chose The Gate because it is 10-minute taxi ride from Florence Airport. The room was great for the low price. The restaurant in the hotel served decent food, too. They arranged for our 4:00 am taxi to the airport.

listing shows that the hotel has AC, but it wasn’t actually working. When asked, the staff said it’s not working for the whole hotel and asked me to open a window. I followed their advice and opened a window, only to be bitten by mosquitoes. Also, I’m pretty sure someone smoked in the bathroom as I can smell it the moment I open the door

The room was great, clean and tidy. The ladies at reception were very helpful and gave us all the information we needed. The food was very nice for the price. However the service in the restaurant was poor. There was a lot of staff not doing anything and only 1 lady appeared to be doing everything. We could see one of the waiters was making guests feel uncomfortable by standing over them having only just been given the menu. When I asked for a desert menu I was sent to get the bill-granted this may have been lost in translation. We felt rushed: my partner had finished eating but I had not when staff came to take her plate, I saw this was common on all the tables with customers having a similar reaction to us. The process of paying seemed messy and unorganised and extremely customer reliant rather than relaxed as you would expect at a 4 star hotel. None of the staff were wearing coherent uniform which again-took away from the whole dining experience with one waiter wearing what appeared to be joggers. It seemed disorganised, rushed and overall not a pleasant experience. Like I say though, for the price, the food was good.

This hotel does not have proper management as our room is taken by someone else when we arrive and they had to send us to another hotel which has even no water cup provided in the room. There is no promised parking space available as a result of this change and we need to have our money refunded!

The hotel and the room were overall good. It could have been a little cleaner in the lobby, it looks a little run down. The dining area was nice. The bar area was cute. I wish there was a pool! My biggest complaints were that the safe didn’t work so I was not able to lock anything in it, and the location of the hotel. It’s about 20-30 minutes via taxi into Florence. I didn’t realize it was so far away when I booked it.

The room itself was clean, but the hallways and elevator were old and dirty. There were many carpet stains, and dead mosquitos accumulating in the elevator. It also smelled of smoke in the hallways and elevator. At least the location was convenient to the airport (although still requires a taxi), which is what we needed. The restaurant is decent as well, and the service is kind.

People is wonderfull but management is pitiful or better, non existent. It is hard to understant the lack of understanding of basic stuff, that you think are a given. Ex: you take a shower and the all room gets flooded etc., lack of transportation, seems like no one cares. No customer service in many areas. Ladies and Gents in the front desk are good and helpful. MANAGEMENT is the problem. Fire management and replace them with ppl that care.

Disgusting, dirty! I wish I could upload pictures of the dirty toilets, stained sheets, laminate floors unsafe to walk on! Stained , smelly and general unclean areas all over ! From hair in my sick to urine in the toilet! The hall smelled like sewage! The soap dispensers didn’t work, shower flooded,,,, a totally horrid stay!

Just went because we need a quick spot to sleep on our way to Rome. Had arrived almost 4 am after my booking. I had checked with hotels details indicating that checking time is from 3pm to 5:30am. This was important since we were road tripping through Italy and needed the flexibility. When we arrived the clerk argued with us that check out was cancelled at 12am, that they informed Expedia to confirm cancellation. I didn’t received any notification and had to provide proof in their Expedia page confirming what I said. He finally let us get a room. All we needed was a shower and rest to get back on the road. Good news, continental breakfast is included. Bad news the bathroom had mold and the shower drain clogged. It caused the bathroom to flood and some went to the bedroom area. Spent the better part of an hour cleaning it up. Only stay from 4:30am to 8:30am. Would not do it again. Rating is very misleading.

We booked this hotel since we wanted a spot close to highway and the hotel offered free parking in its premises. Location - very close to highway, so easy to go in and out of Florence. We drove to Michael Angelo sunset viewpoint with ease. However, the hotel is in industrial area away from city. There is tram stop nearby, if you wish to go to city. Hotel room - we booked 1 room with 4 beds. We got room on 5th floor. Lifts are extremely small. However, we were taken aback by the spacious room and amazing mountain and city views. Negative - mosquitos in the room, so carry sprays. Hotel staff - found the person who checked us in extremely rude. We had 4 big bags and she denied that we couldnt use the bigger lift. The customer lifts were super tiny. One of the other staff members overheard us and decided to help us out. Breakfast - pretty goof for the price we paid.

Please do not look at the photos at all! The hotel is old and has been left for a long time without any care. The hotel is located about half an hour by car from Florence, and you need to take a taxi to the city. There is no bus or train! Each way, you need to pay about 35 to 40 euros. The breakfast is not something to compare with a 2-star hotel. I have no idea why this hotel received a 4-star ranking! the most important part is the cost of going and back to the hotel from Florence.

Our two night stay at The Gate Hotel was a base for us to go to see Florence but enable us to park our rental car safely and conveniently. We had the feeling this hotel is often used by tour groups which came late and left early. We learnt the best way in to Florence was to park our car at the airport 4km away, and costs €1 then hop on the tram into the city centre €1.70. Our stay was comfortable, but breakfast was slightly disappointing, and a bit chaotic after the groups had just left. The location didn’t bother us but it’s not picturesque. For us we just needed a clean comfortable room and a safe car park.
