We enjoyed our stay very much. The outdoor spa, especially the ones with ocean views are exceptional. The dining hall is huge. The breakfast and dinner buffets provide high quality and many varieties of food. Shuttle ferry / bus are convenient. The sunrise and sunset at the viewing platform are beautiful.

this hotel is so big that it is a hotel complex, it even has a connivence store. friendly staff, well managed, many hot spring to choose from, include two cave pools located next to the ponding waves. very special place, i like it. only downside is you have to take the free shuttle boat to the hotel (last boat is 7:30pm, after that you have to take taxi).

Nice hotel, staff were helpful and very nice. Location is a little inconvenient, if you aren’t driving you need to take a ferry of shuttle back and forth. Overall a good stay.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel food offerings in the main restaurant were very varied and catered for a wide range of tastes and were well presented and served. The hotel wasn’t in the condition we expected however, we had to change rooms from the broken and dirty ones we were first allocated. The whole place has an air of needing much renovation. One corridor was covered in mould and was like a scene from a fairground ghost ride. The whole area stank of sulphur which was explainable but kept out of descriptions we had read.

Simply put - the two cave onsen at this hotel are fantastic. And indeed, there are several other onsen pools to choose from too. I was lucky to go when the sea was quite rough, and sitting at the front of the cave onsen, soaking in the hot spring while watching the waves breaking on the rocks outside was a really soul satisfying experience. The hotel itself is like a wild bubble-era project and is simply huge with plenty to explore. It was hard to take it all in - I was really absorbed just wandering around. The (seemingly) endless escalator ride up to the adjoining hotel block was a bit unique to try too. There is a helpful mini-bus and turtle themed ferry to and from the town centre ( only 10 minutes walk from station to ferry / bus) and it runs frequently. Can’t say there there were many dining options within the hotel itself, the breakfast and evening buffet are just fine plus two extra small cafe style casual restaurants on-site. No bar or coffee shop ( but you can sit in and eat snacks / coffee at the on-site Lawsons convenience store. Nothing gourmet - come for the onsen, not for dining. (though some decent small dining places in town if you wish to hop over on the ferry and back) The room was huge with a nice sea view in our case. Futon style sleeping was comfortable. Everything clean and working. All in all - lovely! I and my wife had a very memorable break here.

Huge hotel a 5 minute ferry ride from town. We stayed in a spacious Japanese room with fantastic ocean views. The onsen was amazing, in a cave right next to the ocean where you could watch waves crashing while bathing. Buffet breakfast and dinner were good.

The cave onsens are wonderful and we loved our breakfast looking out at the rocky coast and crashing waves at breakfast. The hotel is a 1960s throw-back and well-maintained and very reasonably priced. Great hiking on Kumano Kodo nearby and sightseeing.

Great hotel in a cute fishing town. The decor is very dated but this added to the experience for us. We opted for a Japanese style room looking over the ocean. The room was big and the view was great. Evening buffet was fine. We didn’t try the breakfast option. Used both the boat and shuttle to get to and from the hotel and both worked well.

Amazing stay - especially the cave onsen and the views on top of the mountains; the retro classical video games next to the cafeteria also bring back lots of memories

Either the car or ferry were prompt in picking people up. The hotel is beautiful, and the food was delicious. I loved going to dinner in my slides and yukata. Service and amenities were top notch, the onsen was a once in a lifetime experience. The town itself is charming.

Our stay at the hotel was just ok. The hotel is from 1957 and is an aging relic of what I am sure was a once glorious hotel. Much of the hotel appeared to be shut down to guests and falling into a bit of disrepair in places. The lobby was supposedly renovated recently and a Lawsons general store has been added which is nice. The traditional Japanese room was nice and clean in comparison to some of the more common areas of the hotel, much of the furnishings appear to be original many of which are falling apart 2 of the 3 chairs i sat in literally came apart and needed to be pieced back together. The traditional mats for sleeping are not enough padding if you have a bad back you will want to have them triple stacked at minimum. The windows needed cleaned everywhere we went. The pop up shops are cute but limited the kids arcade was adorable and the game tables were a cute addition. The two main attractions 1- the Onsen I hear was great from my travel mates but I did not partake - Its traditional Japanese so take notice you may only enter nude. I feel they could make one onsen swimsuit optional since they have several just my opinion. 2 - the space elevator was not in service that i saw the two days we were there which was a disappointment since I had read that the views were spectacular. Use the elevator to see the sunrise which is spectacular but wear bug spray! the buffet had huge variety but it expensive! Overall the stay was fine would love to come back after renovations

For those who are looking to luxuriate in the onsens of the Kii península… This is a place not to be missed. The cave onsens, especially, were both gorgeous and healing… The other ones perhaps a bit rundown, but still quite a treat. The staff were great (and multi-lingual) and my room was squeaky clean. Highly recommend
