Never stayed there as a hotel guest, so I'm only evaluating this place as a day trip onsen. The quality of the water is just amazing...high alkaline makes your skin feel so smooth. They've expanded the facility tremendously over the last 10-15 years, so day-tripper can no longer access the original cypress (hinoki) bath, but the new facilities are super clean/modern and comfortable. The access isn't very good, so if you are driving, expect some narrow winding road where you may need to negotiate with an oncoming traffic from time to time. (Japanese rental cars are mostly pretty small an nimble so it shouldn't be a problem.) Overall I just love the serenity of the place up in the mountain.

Great old world charm Onsen. The high PH water is great for the skin (feels super smooth after soaking). I understand the food menu changes regularly, depending on what’s in season and fresh. Only bad (or good) point is its location. It’s not easily accessible without car.

Lovely location which is serene and beautiful. The natural landscape smells fresh and chirping birds create an oasis-like atmosphere. The staff is unbelievably kind and hospitable. Dinner and breakfast are traditional Japanese food served beautifully. The rooms are spotless, and in our case the onsen in our room was to die for. If you have tattoos, this is a great place to enjoy all the benefits of onsen without worry. Also they speak English to make your stay even easier.

Good onsen hotel. Their onsen water is drinkable. They serves seafood, but you can order meat if needed. They have 2 public onsen, one outside and one inside. Most of the room also have private onsen for you to enjoy. They have complete amenities, yukata, pajamas and free wifi. There is no need to bring anything to here.

tucked away in the mountain with narrow single lane road. bit pricy at 1500yen but highly rated onsen. onsen water is drinkable. there's a fountain at the center of a bath with a wooden cup.
