TAOYA Shima

Did not have a great time at this place. It is more suited to retired old Japanese people who want to go to the onsen. Felt a bit uncomfortable as we were the only westerners there but people were friendly. While the view was good from our room, the beach was dirty and not maintained. If the hotel would have paid someone to clean the beach up every morning it would’ve been a better experience.

As previous guests note, twenty five minutes from Toba station. As such, no restaurants or stores aside from in the hotel, but plenty of beautiful scenery. I didn’t have the dinner option due to price and instead brought take out from the local food shop (Marche) near the station, but fully enjoyed the lavish spread of fresh foods (fruits and veggies, too) and view of the bay. My room was spacious and new (532) and the indoor pool and outdoor jacuzzi were well-maintained and I could do laps or walking exercises. Overall, a wonderful resort for a little rest and relaxation. ps. The shuttle bus needs to be reserved by phone or mail and actually is worth the drive since you can see the water during the commute.

Overall disappointed and uncomgortable stay. Pro: Location is isolated but they have complimentary shuttle service to/from Toba station and it is beach front. View from room is great. Swimming pool is great as they reserve after 5pm for 13years and up only for quiet hours. Hotel has several art displayed and nice to spot them. Breakfast buffet is quite nice with local ingredients. Con: Restaurants only offer 3 set menu and require reservation for dinner. Biggest issue is Room! No air conditioning available even it is clearly stated hotels.com website that air condition room. At night, our room temp was over 27c and humidity over 60%. Extremely uncomfortable. We called several times to the front desk but issue never solved and we had to suggest if they can bring air purifier, fan, etc as they couldn't even think the alternative solution. Also spider in the room upon checked in and spider webs. Must wear special swim cap when using Swimming pool. You can rent for 300yen. I rent the cap but when I used it the color came out and transferred to my swimmer, towel etc. I informed about this but hotel staff just said I see and still charged for the rental fee and no apology. This hotel has so much potential but room condition was unacceptable especially for the price.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay. The view was beautiful, the beach was nice for swimming and walking, the pool and indoor/outdoor Jacuzzi's were nice, the service was professional, the hotel free pickup/dropoff from the Toba Station were appreciated and went smoothly. I really liked the French restaurant, but the Japanese restaurant was not good value for the price we were paying. They used a lot of cheap ingredients, such as fruit salad with yogurt for dessert, tofu dish, veggie dish, cold noodles, and only a couple small pieces of sushi. We wanted to eat Ise shrimp or some Matsusaka beef, or other local specialties. The Japanese restaurant was a rip off for that price! The breakfast buffet was decent. I didn't like having to pay for a beach seat on the hotels private beach. The price we paid for the hotel should have included that. We also had to buy swim caps from the hotel. My wife loved all the art that was in the hotel. The is some very creative contemporary art throughout the hotel. The hotel is a little dated now, but the area is very quiet and lovely. I think if I went back, we would not get the dinner included deal, and go to one of the seafood restaurants in Toba or at a different resort. I was left hungry and disappointed after the Japanese dinner. The hotel is in a very quiet area with not much going on with regards to other restaurant choices, so if you go there without a car, you need to eat there unless you take the shuttle or a taxi.

Thalassa Shima is located right on the beach of a beautiful bay. Looking out of the window and seeing the sunrise and the small fishing boats is wonderful. The location is a bit remote and not much to do around.But just the calmness and the view make up for that.The resort is 25min drive from JR Toba Station. The hotel provides a shuttlebus service to and from the station. Last departure from the station is at 6pm.If you arrive after 6pm you need to take a taxi (cost 4450Y) Looking from the outside - the building is in need of repair. But inside it is nice with lots of artwork. The room up to standard. Spacious and clean with all the necessities to make you feel comfortable. The staff is friendly and very helpful. French dinner is superb and very good wines. Their Japanese style dinner is not worth a try - unfortunately. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would recommend it to other people.

Great hotel, with beach access (it's a small cove/bay). shame we didnt have enough time to enjoy it all as we were on a road trip. Lots of seafood places in the area.

Remote, quiet, beautiful grounds and setting. Hallway carpet threadbare balcony railings coming loose. Food expensive. Okay if you have a car. Will not stay again.se

全て良かったです！特に星空テラスでは流れ星を見ることができ、最高でした☆ 部屋やレストランからの景色が綺麗で心からリフレッシュできました。

素晴らしい。コスパ良し。

2部屋宿泊、2階と4階 2階はホテルの屋根が邪魔して⤵️ 4階は良い眺めだった

様々な物が良かっただけにレストランのシェフが少し愛想が悪く態度も良くないのが残念　それを除けば料理もスタッフの対応も良くとても満足した　

子供と一緒の旅行にはとても良いと思います。

朝夕のバイキングメニューが豊富で 大変満足じした。 また風呂上がりの飲み物も充実してました。 また利用したくなりました。

バイキングが、全て美味しくて 食べ過ぎてしまいます。とても満足です。 とても綺麗な、施設で景色も最高です。 大浴場も、一日の疲れがとれます。

何もかも最高でした。 おつまみが、もっと他のが欲しいです。

とても過ごしやすかった。 ディナーバイキングがお酒を飲む人には種類もあり良かったが食事だけの人には思ったほど良くなかった。 エレベーターの場所と数が少なく少し不便だった。

飲み物込みというのがとても良かった。
