We stayed at a hotel across the river, but took a boat to Don Daeng to see the island. We found ourselves at La Folie where the extremely kind and accommodating staff let us rent motorcycles and even taught us how they work and made recommendations for our tour. We made a circuit of the island and returned for lunch at the hotel restaurant, where again we received impeccable service in addition to delicious food and drink with an incredible view.
During lunch, we even asked the staff to call our hotel and change some details about our boat back across the Mekong, and they did this without issue.
When we are back in Laos we will definitely stay here. If they were this kind to four people who weren't even staying with them, imagine how they treat their own guests!

A lovely quaint colonial style river lodge run by the locals. Perfect to explore Southern Laos which remains safe from tourists.

La Folie Lodge is an oasis on Don Daeng island in Southern Laos. You are collected by boat from Champasak and transported across the Mekong River to the island. The lodge is all dark Timbers with the reception and dining room in a large open pavilion cooled by ceiling fans. The pool is very deep and refreshing, overlooking the river. The bungalows are also dark Timbers, large balcony and very well appointed. Plenty to do with good quality bicycles available to explore the beautiful island and many side tours able to be organised at reasonable prices. The food is delicious - highly recommend the special Sindat dinner, and the service is impressive. Also have to mention the head and neck massage provided on arrival, and the great spa services. My idea of paradise!

La Folie Lodge is a 4-star boutique hotel on Don Daeng Island. It has 26 rooms with private balconies overlooking the Mekong River. The location is stunning. You are collected in a boat and driven up the beach to the lodge.
Rooms clean and tidy, outstanding staff. Choice of different rooms and if there are two colours consider starting in The Residence! It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living area approximately 160 square meters, as well as a 50 square meter terrace. You'll love the decor.
A great choice for travelers who want to experience a peaceful and authentic stay in Southern Laos.
