Macalister Terraces Hotel

The staff had worked above and beyond for us. Especially Lisa (front office).

Lovely place and I would highly recommend it as it’s very central to everything such as restaurants, food courts, shops, clinics, hospitals, bakeries, coffee shops, etc. It’s very spacious, clean, and the staff there are extremely helpful!

Great location to eating places. All within walking distant. New lane, Kimberley food street. Chowraster markets, Clear Line Nasi Kandar .. all nearby. The hotel is an heritage venue.. the suite are actually adjoining rooms which gives good space and privacy for 4 pax. The wooden antiquity wardrobe doors creaks. And toilet doors creaks too. We stayed at the ground floor rooms facing the parking lot. Could be noisy at night when people talked loudly at the carpark. But it’s just our lock on that particular day. Otherwise it’s super convenient to walk from street to the room.

After 24 hours solid travelling the Terraces was a welcoming sanctuary for us to recover on the first night and thereafter a well located base for our visit to George Town. The hotel only provides rooms which is no problem with so many good eating places around. Everything was very good quality and well maintained. The artwork in the lobby was fun. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

Nice building rooms had all you needed. Safe didnt work but stored at the front desk. Housekeeping was just ok

Great little hotel, very boutique focused, great street art throughout the lobby. Lisa the manager was extremely helpful and gave great advice on where to go and where to eat. Only downside was no bar or anywhere near by to go for a drink but saying there’s plenty of fabulous eateries very close. Would recommend if you want a small and quiet place to stay right in town.

To me, the hotel was the highlight of George Town.

I really enjoyed the property; it was so clean, artistic, and felt like a museum. Also a plus everyone was so helpful. Parking easy right in front in spots, but I didn't drive, and I literally walked to everything while I waited to get check in. Can't wait till they open a bar upstairs. Also if you need car service or tours, they have it for you right at the desk so don't book anything online.

This was a rare find. We loved the coziness of this hotel. Lisa at the front desk was exceptionally helpful pointing us to places we could go and eat. If you are after local hawker fare they are just a 10 min walk away. Parking can be an issue as there are limited spaces but otherwise, this is an excellent little boutique hotel in the city.

pretty close to Cafés, restaurants and sightseeing, parking is a life-saver in Georgetown

Staying here was such a delight. I booked this hotel for a quick getaway for my parents who were attending a wedding up north. The manager called me once to confirm the arrival time at the hotel so he could make sure they would have the room ready on time (as they were a bit short handed that day). When my fathers car broke down while in Penang, the manager was absolutely wonderful, and offered them his own personal car so they could make it to the wedding in Alor Setar on time. Hotel side, the Macalister Terraces feels new, clean, well maintained and very central for those wanting to explore Georgetown. Not to mention a very affordable place for those who are looking for comfort at a reasonable price. Would 100% book another stay here, or recommend it anyone travelling to this part of Malaysia. Keep up the great work guys!

The place was simply the best! Especially if you like arts, clean rooms and toilets. Oh, the friendly owner too! He'll be able to recommend good FOOD places around the area. Also, if you like walking, this is a good spot to be at! You can get to the main attractions of Georgetown from here. I enjoyed my stay here!
