Tukan Hotel Playa del Carmen

I want to start this by saying this poor review has nothing to do with the staff. Everyone was kind and pleasant, the second star is for them. We appreciated them a lot, especially maintenance and cleaning staff. That being said, this place was very uncomfortable. Hard beds, dingy sheets and towels. No hand towels and the soap they left were just two blue unlabeled bottles of soap. The rooms were old and smelly, and people are allowed to smoke apparently so there was cigarette smoke wafting into the room. The cleaning staff did their best but ancient everything made the stay uncomfortable. We ended up getting airbnbs nearby to be able to rest comfortably. Also-it’s loud, which has everything to do with the location. It is right on 5ta, which is awesome if you’re there to party. A woman set up every night on 5ta with an amp and basically screamed/sang until 3:30am. It was so uncomfortable and it ruined our trip because we were exhausted the whole time. This is more to inform folks. The hotel has no control over this. Basically if you’re there to party and don’t care, great location. But if you want a clean, comfy place to stay, I recommend elsewhere.

Overall, there are many cons than pros to this hotel Pros: 1. Excellent location. Quinta avenida is just a few steps away where there are many restaurants and bars. 2. Very limited parking space (7 spaces). However , they have 2 more properties and so if they have space , they can accommodate you in one of their locations 3. Pool is maintained well. 4. Beds are comfortable and AC is in good working condition. Cons: 1. To start with, there are no elevators in the hotel. And the bell boys are very reluctant to help you take the luggage up your room. Very bad attitude overall from the bell boys. 2. None of the room have refrigerator or mini bar. This is a let down to me. 3. The front desk asked me if I need a locker to which I denied but I saw a locker that was broken inside the room. It kills the ambience of a room to have things broken. 4. Bathroom door will not lock. Bad maintenance from the hotel authorities 5. A lamp in the pool area was flickering all the days I stayed. I don't think it would take more than 30 minutes to fix this 6. The lady at the front desk was always saying NO to whatever we requested. No water bottles, No glasses offered if one did not know to drink water from bottles directly (kids) . Overall a very very bad experience to stay in this hotel. There are many properties with a little more price which can give a lot of peace of mind rather than staying at a hotel where staffs don't bother to serve the guests

The hotel is very nice. For a reasonable price we got a big room with a balcony. We had warm water in the shower and decent water pressure compared to other places in Mexico and air conditioning. All the staff were nice, especially Rene who helped us to our room and also helped answer all our questions about other things we wanted to do in the area. He was amazing! Over all great hotel and very good location, close to beach and the strip where it seems everything is happening at night (and we stayed on a Wednesday).

Could be improved. Asked for a blanket and was told order it for next day sometime! Wow! Not very friendly staff either.

This place is a Hostel rather than a hotel. Has zero amenities, rooms are quite small and don't have anything other than a TV.
