This is a very pretty, instagram able hotel. It is clean and the staff was very nice.
The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is that the rooms do not have a deadbolt, chain, or other way for someone inside the room to lock the room so that a hotel employee with a key cannot enter. This is a dealbreaker for me - I would not have stayed here if I had known. The reason is that years ago in another country a hotel employee entered my room with a key and assaulted me. I honestly thought it was a building code requirement for hotels to have deadbolts. I highly recommend the hotel install them.

The highlight of our stay in Rotorua was the Black Swan. Clean, luxurious, beautiful location. Friendly staff.
We sat on the balcony of our room and watched the steam from the geysers across the lake fill the quiet morning air with steam. A magical moment.
The gardens are perfect and the setting is very peaceful and serene.
A special mention goes to Jason, the day manager. He is friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect.

The property feels like a private home when you’re in the garden. We watched the sunset and played around in the garden and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. It has a guest lounge with games and it feels like you could just hang out there for a week and enjoy yourself. We only had 2 nights but made ourselves right at home thanks to the hospitality of Rowena and her associate. Definitely stay at Black Swan!

The Black Swan is a beautiful small boutique hotel. The grounds are gorgeous and the view of the lake is stunning. Rowena and the staff were extremely accommodating and so thoughtful. They treated us like family instead of guests. We had an early tour in the morning and they had our cooked to order breakfast ready an hour before they normally open to allow us to be picked up on time for our tour. We loved our stay and would definitely stay here again! Thank you Rowena! Cheers!
