Messaged them via expedia asking what's latest check in time, got the reply after 5 days! Booked family room for two adults & 2 kids. They apologised that they have been overbooked and offered me two double rooms instead, luckily my kids old enough to sleep by themselves.

Spider webs all over the unit, shower was dirty and the unit had a bad smell to it. For the price it was definitely NOT up to standard. Only thing positive was the beautiful lake view.

Location was perfect. Beautiful views over the lake Manapouri. Close to boat for exceptional day cruise to Doubtful Sound. Felt the motel in general was quite run down, needed refurbishment. Gardens need weeding. Restaurant and bar were closed.

Considering it was $175 a night and the pub and restaurant still had signage out saying great food etc ..... it clearly hadn't been open for years !

It’s funny reading the reviews on here. The place is 2.5 star type place. Basic. Depending on room you get. I stayed in room 404. Two single beds with small bathroom etc. I stayed in summer which seems to be peak season. One thing to be mindful is the whole property faces east or west, so afternoon the sun shines in window s and makes it quite hot but cools down later by 10pm so ok for sleeping. Great view and quiet place. Something different to staying in more popular Te Anau. Good location to drive to various walks in Fiordland national park. It’s 17 min from Te Anau - not many shops around. Just the one bar place ( the church) to get food. But it’s quiet and view is amazing. But I liked it overall

Despide the bad reviews - it was clean, friendly stuff and stunning views. The building is aged - but the price is ok because of the good views. Everything good- we sleep well- and enjoyed our stay there.

The buildings were a bit run down but extremely clean and comfortable. The setting and view are outstanding. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there.

None of the amenities work. Staff don't respond back to messages or emails. I'd look elsewhere to stay if in the area.

We were booked in to the three bedroom unit but on arrival were met with an original house from the 60s/70s. The living/kitchen/dining space felt ok, but heading to the bedrooms wasn’t pleasant. The carpets were stained, the toilet didn’t flush properly, the toilet had a low window with no coverage out onto the main road, no screens on windows or doors meant mosquitoes and flies came in, there were stains on the sheets, the outdoor furniture was covered in spiderwebs. The house was extremely musty and messed with my husbands hayfever. This cost us $700AUD for one night. I went to reception to ask for other options and there was one other room. He was very helpful, showing me the room which had a queen bed and a pull out double sofa bed. We moved here and on trying to get the bed ready for our two kids, discovered no mattress on the sofa bed. Back to reception and he was very apologetic, offering 5 meals for dinner (we had already eaten) and said he’d get the mattress for our two kids to share. When we returned from a walk, the sofa bed was packed and an entire single bed had been brought in. Our kids are too big to share a single. Back to reception for the 4th time, we got sheets and blankets and made up the sofa ourselves (not bed, she slept on the sofa). The mattresses were extremely soft and uneven. The shower head was broken. I barely slept a wink. It’s a shame, the location is stunning, opposite the lake and mountains. But this place needs a lot of work.

The only positives were the view & no bed bugs. I stayed at this motel in the mid seventies & it's vertually unchanged. Ancient dial shower, one pillow very flat, no milk in the fridge, dirt on surface of tv table. I was able to clean it so not a stain, & frame of doorway is raised a bit causing people to stub their toes - needs a mind the step warning. Only stay here if you a desperate. Definitely not value for money.

Clean but outdated and far too expensive for what it is. I would not book again unless I had no other choice.

Very disappointing! The motel was so unkept and a ghost town. They confirmed I could check in an hour earlier and when I got there reception was closed from 12 -2pm! Not a soul around so left a message at front desk. The property is so rundown, lawns overgrown, broken fixtures around the place, all the cafe/ restaurant options onsite were closed despite listing what's available in the accommodation file. They allowed a massive double container truck to park in the front blocking the views from the accommodation so that impacted the only positive thing about it.

When I booked this place for a family holiday in NZ, the rate seemed a bit high compared to others; but I was getting the "lakeview holiday home" so it seemed worth it. Sadly, this was the Nightmare Before Christmas combined with the Shining. Upon arrival, it was rundown outside, but things got worse. Our 'holiday home' had a broken bulb on the ground outside the door with broken glass, a rusted round clothesline outside, the toilet didn't work & was next to the washer, the grass was uncut, a picnic table had peeling paint you would get splinters from, the fuse box was exposed & the wifi didn't work. The check-in man was fine -but it was his 2nd day on the job & he didn't know anything. I wanted to check out immediately & messaged expedia but was cut off due to the lack of internet & was told the hotel's policy was no refund for the full stay. There was no one at the front desk for me to call. The next day -still no working toilet & the front desk assistant couldn't understand English even though the hotel is in NZ. She brought a plunger for my husband to use & a key to a room across the parking lot if the plunger didn't work. Then I spoke to the bartender/manager who said to email him & he would send my email to the owner re a refund, Nothing happened. But I did find an unknown man's underwear on the bedroom floor. DON'T STAY HERE. IT IS A SCARY, UNKEMPT RIPOFF. Stay elsewhere. NZ is great. This place is an insult to the country & to Expedia for listing it.

The views are to die for. The rooms are bot serviced daily. The whole place is very run down and needs a good weed, mow and paint. The bar and restaurant looked closed all the time. Rooms were clean enough but need much attention.

Someone (another guest?) unlocked our door and walked into our room while we were in there. An older building and a bit shabby-- this was fine, expected. But. Only one outlet in the entire room worked. There was a TV, fridge, two heaters, electric blanket... but none of them could work because the plug points were non-functional. There was rubbish under the bed from previous guests and hair in the sink. There was no daily service (towels, etc). Basically it seems like a dying motel on its last legs. The beds were very comfortable and warm, at least, and it had a great view sitting on the balcony.

Access to the lake was a 3 minute walk. Short drive to Te Anau. Requested a two bed room - given a one bed. When we changed to a two bed room there wasn’t a pillow for one bed. No tee towel or dish cloth. Small table needed a good cleaning.
