The Brownston Hostel

Nice and clean room, within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. We had the king bed room with private ensuite which was very basic, but comfortable enough for our one night stay.

The hostel is at a very convenient location. Grocery store NW next door. Although the room is too small to eat at, but you can always grab something from the grocery store and eat by the lake. My stay was not too bad overall. However I was unlucky the day I arrived happened to be one of these hot days. The room looks exactly like the photo, what you see is what you get. There is a bed in the room and some cabinet on the side, no nightstand or anything else. So the temperature was high, I opened the window, then the problem is due to the convenient location, it was quite noisy outside, even at night. So I try to close the window. Then it was too hot. And I opened the window again, then I hear people laughing, talking, drinking, etc. I ended up didn’t sleep well that night. Like I said, I was unlucky and happened to be there in one of these hot days…so if you are traveling in summer, this is something to consider.

Overall good stay. Appreciated a plug in and additional cord charging port. The chill space being separate from the TV space was appreciated. The kitchen was strange. You had to ascend the ground floor to first floor steps, walk partway across the property, and then go down another set of stairs. A lot of space to cook in the kitchen, as well as dine and relax. Wifi however was mediocre at best so if you’re needing to use it, I would look elsewhere.

The service is good.

We stayed here (4 adults) for a night and had a quad room. Quite happy to have multiple options for dining just around the corner. This property does not have it's own parking but can park on any of the surrounding streets (free parking). Walkable distance to the lake and a supermarket right beside the property. Overall was a lovely stay. Will highly recommend.

A fantastic placevto stay , very central to everything

Great stay

Very close to the centre of Wanaka, basic room but comfortable and clean, fantastic kitchen and eating area and nice chill space on the second floor. Very good value.

Very accommodating staff great location.

Unfortunately we mistook this for a Hotel and not a Hostel considering the price, so were quite shocked when we arrived. The room was very small and the "en-suite" was a cupboard. Of course no facilities in the room. Extremely noisy with people opening and slamming doors until quite late, then during the night the wind came up and made an awful whistling sound and draft through the window, actually knocking off an item left on the window sill. No sleep that night!!

Location was perfect staff and amenities were excellent and clean

A completely average stay. The room was as basic as it gets. Ok if you want to be in and out overnight but do not expect any frills.

Quite different to what i expected in a very good way. Facilities very clean and located a very short walk to town center. Beds very comfortable and very quiet.

We really enjoyed

Amazing location. Next door to grocery (New World), coffee shop, pastry and crepe and within a few mins walk to Patagonia Ice Cream and the lakefront. We stayed in twin room. The room was simple with only beds and rubbish bin but beds are comfy and towels are provided. Kitchen is by far the best we have seen in NZ backpackers & holiday park. Fully equipped and have enough fridge and shelves for everyone, plus they offer free milk for coffee (dairy and vegan). Bathrooms are great. Small but clean and there are enough cubicles so you never need to wait.

We felt it was overpriced for what it was. We have stayed at many places over the past week in many holiday distinations and the had better facilities for less

The stafff were friendly and helpful. The pricepoint was extremely high for what you get. There was laundry and rubbish bags lining the halls waiting to be collected. Even if you have no where else to stay, dont stay here. It's to expensive for what you get. And you get sweet f.a.
