This was our fourth stay here and it was everything we wanted of it. We were here to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and they left us a bottle of Madeira wine, a honey cake and a basket of fruit.
The location, in the old town, is just right with a bar at the bottom of the short hill, one of our favourite stops and they know us.
The view from the terrace is fabulous, looking towards the harbour while having breakfast is lovely.
The hotel is very nice, the rooms nice and airy and a balcony to sit on, everything we want.

If you want the essence of the classy Madeira experience, look no further! From the perfect location walking distance to the sweet old town and lido, friendly staff, airy and classy room with a spacious bathroom and terrace, jacuzzi and the pool and to the fresh breakfast, very well prepared with no pretentiousness. Loved every moment!

The hotel is in a really nice location, near the city center yet in an area free of oppressive infrastructure and overly crowded areas. Our particular room also had a picturesque view on the port and the ocean, so bonus points for that. The building itself is pretty climatic and fits well with the surrounding infrastructure, which is a big YES for us, seeing how many hotels in the hotel district were just blocks of concrete with windows.
The room itself was decent, haven't spent much time there except nights and evenings, so can't rate the living comfort all too much. The one thing that the room could use however was more shelves, seeing how big the wardrobe was.
The cleaning service however did a really good job - our room was clean and tidy every day.
The real treat (to us) was actually a restaurant. All the meals were tasty and fresh; the buffet offered a wide choice of food for breakfast, while dinners were varying and interesting, using local products such as fish and fruits. The several of restaurant staff made dining way more enjoyable, we particularly want to thank the gentleman who always treated us with vitamina for dinners :).
Overall we had a really good time in this place and would definitely pick it as an accommodation should we ever visit Madeira again.

This hotel has been a favourite of mine for many years, now part of a chain, refurbished rooms and pool
The best location to watch the fireworks at New Year, Situated a easy walk from town centre in the old town where many cafe, restaurants and bars are, up the hill from sao Tiago fort. Traditional style of Portugal even where modernised.

The location is the strongest side. But the rest is mediocre at best. Rooms lack basic features as power outlets near beds and ceiling lights. The AC is controlled centrally and you can't set it, making it useless. The food is alright but not much more but the service is so slow it's almost not worth it. In the end a good place to go if you want to try small local restaurants. There's a ton of them in 5min walk distance.
