Residencial Funchal

The description of the accommodations was misleading regarding the number of beds. The listing claimed to offer 1 double bed and 1 single bed. However, the room we were assigned contained only 1 double bed. Upon raising the issue of this discrepancy with the manager, Juan, we received no form of compensation, merely an apology. Furthermore, the actual room did not match any of the pictures advertised online; it was in a noticeably poorer condition. Based on these experiences, I cannot recommend this establishment.

The location is perfect. A fantastic spot in Funchal right across from the market and a couple of minutes walk from most buses including the one for the airport. The location is the selling point for the place. The rooms are old and dated and could use better mattresses and bedding. There is no fan or air conditioning which resulted in the room being uncomfortably warm even with the windows open until after nightfall. It is very much a hostel like accommodation. The front desk was friendly and helpful when there although they arrive later in the morning and leave relatively early. There is a small shared kitchen for the guests on the top floor. In all if you are looking for a great location in Funchal for cheap this is the place for you.

Even though the location is very good, the rest is very unpleasant. The hostel forgot that I arrive so I had to wait about 45min and have a few phone calls until I got a room. I guess that can happen from time to time though it was annoying. The room had a very strong moisty smell and the sheets had a few stains on them. Also there were no sheets on the cover. The bathroom was kinda ok, basically clean. Also my room and the reception didnt look like the pictures on google at all 😅 Another point is the reception, nobody was there, also when I wanted to check out. For one night its ok but I would not recommend more.

Location is amazing. In front of the Mercado dos lavradores which is the heart of the center. The house is very clean and comfortable. We didn't spend a lot of time at the place but gave us the comfort when we are there. José is a great host and provided us all the best that we could ask for. The only thing that I would like to mention is that there is a restaurant at the downstairs, for that reason keep the windows of the kitchen and bedroom although the smell is amazing 😊 I can assure you that you will have a great experience to choose the Residencial Funchal for your vacation. Thank you for them to make this experience great.

Our stay there was good. The made our bed everyday. They gave us a room at the top floor so that we could have our own bathroom and the kitchen right next to our room. The people were very nice. The kitchen, however, was a bit dirty and not very well organized. Overall though it was a good stay. And great location.
