I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for Hotel Royal Orchid in Caniço, where I had the pleasure of spending a week with my group on a yoga retreat. This hotel exceeded all our expectations and proved to be the perfect setting for relaxation, yoga practice, and exploring the beauty of Madeira. Wonderful and Spotless Accommodation The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean, and cozy, offering stunning views of the ocean that energized us every day. Whether for morning meditation or evening relaxation, the sound of the waves right outside our windows created the ideal atmosphere. Breathtaking Views Perched on a cliff, the hotel offers unparalleled views of the endless Atlantic Ocean. Each sunset was absolutely magical and became a highlight of our daily experience. It felt as if nature itself was putting on a private show for us every evening. Outstanding Reception and Staff The reception team was incredibly helpful, kind, and professional. Every request was handled swiftly and with a genuine smile. Exceptional Restaurant Service The restaurant staff took care of us like we were royalty. Mornings were a delight with a generous breakfast. Dinner was equally memorable – every meal was delicious and served with impeccable hospitality. We truly felt pampered throughout our stay. The AC didn’t work in my room at all. The hotel did nothing to correct it. They claim it’s a central AC but it doesn’t work or keep the room at a reasonable temperature. I was sweating myself to sleep every night. Absolutely ridiculous from a so called 4 star hotel. The view is amazing, you can watch the sunrise from there.

This is a difficult one to review because some aspects of this hotel are fantastic, others are really poor. First impression was a frosty check in from very unfriendly reception staff member. Our room was not ready until two hours after our arrival, no apology/offer of a drink or place to relax following our journey - not the best start. When we did get to our room it was great, lovely ocean view, large modern room and bathroom - all good there. There isn't a huge selection of food available for each meal. It was okay for a week because the offer differed each day, but the lunchtime cold options reappeared for evening meals too. The gym (which was a big factor in us booking this hotel) is open to local members and like many gyms clearly has "regulars" who dominate the equipment. It was never quiet and we felt intimidated by the staff who were present as we were easily identifiable as "hotel guests" . The real downside for us was the service at evening meals. One evening it took 25 minutes to be offered a drink. Plates were never cleared unless we asked . . We realised that as all inclusive visitors we did not get the attention of any of the waiting staff who were very obviously attentive to paying guests (we had already paid as identified by our wristbands) We're not loud or obnoxious, we don't drink lots - but do enjoy some wine with our evening meal. If we had a glass for every time the waiting staff walked past us we may have enjoyed our evenings a lot more. The cleanliness levels of the hotel are okay - not exceptional. The all inclusive isn't "all" . Additional charges are made for many drinks/more than one pool towel per stay/use of the safe. Several evenings there were no coffee machines operating to get an evening drink unless you waited at the bar which had a long queue (probably due to the poor table service) Locally it's well connected through the local public bus (155) to Funchal, but otherwise there's not too much around. We wouldn't return. It clearly has some appeal but good service and a friendly smile are a must and they were lacking when we visited. *Additional following hotel response Many thanks for reading and giving feedback. Also, the lady with the trolley who clears away at breakfast time was fantastic.

Best hotel in Madeira. Do not make economy on price and just book the seaview room, this is incredible. Staff is so nice and available at any moment. I proposed on this hotel and staff was so arranging despite last minute. Good breakfast with large choice. Good location, 10mn drive to Funchal and airport, easy to access all other attractions on the island. We had a Luxairtours reservation for hotel Rocamar but rooms are in the renovated Royal Orchid Hotel. The junior suite overlooking the ocean was huge and beautiful. It has a spacious living room with a cauch that easily transforms into two single beds + kitchenette and microwave in the living room and, separated by a door, 1 bedroom with two single beds. Large bathroom with modern shower box accessible both from the bdr and living. Toilet with little shower which is a must for those used to have bidet. Big terrace with little table + 2 chairs and 180° ocean view that we didn't have the time to enjoy enough. Restaurant with amazing view of the ocean, food was good and various, both for breakfast and dinner but not excellent. Drinks were not included in half board but prices are honest (small draft beer 3,5, spritz 7) Waiters super kind, always patient with our kids, ready to accommodate our requests. Last day reception allowed us for late checkout at 14, plus they sent to our room a bottle of sparkling wine for my birthday. The outdoor swimming pool is overlooking the ocean like the restaurant and the whole complex but water was too cold for our little ones. We stayed always at the indoor one, warm and with jacuzzi. Plenty of sunbeds and I saw also a modern gym but I didn't use it. As a family, we would have preferred to have a kids area or a small playground but worth to say that we were the only ones with small kids in the first week of November. A part from that, I would put on top of all the kindness of the hotel staff, we'll come back for sure!
