Vila Galé Douro Vineyards

Beautiful hotel and well worth the price! I think it sounds like a lot has changed since opening and some previous negative feedback has been addressed. Pros: -Views!!! Our room (and I think most or all of the rooms) had a balcony with a beautiful view that we never tired of. It was amazing to wake up to every day. -Breakfast buffet - good selection and good quality food, we especially enjoyed the pastries and the omelette station. -Evening buffet was decent and actually feels nicer than a lot of hotel buffets, table service for drinks and nice lighting - you could dress up if you wanted to and still feel like you were going out for dinner. We actually preferred this option than going to the a la carte restaurant. -Pool area was clean and plenty of sunbeds available. Pool bar -when it was open - was reasonably priced and quick decent food and drinks (enjoyed the day and night cocktail!) - Friendly staff from housekeeping to waiters everyone was always helpful and greeted us with a smile -Wine tasting available, we picked the basic option at €12.50 pp which includes a tour and 3 wine samples - Staff were able to accommodate my nut allergy but be aware that allergens aren't labelled at the buffet so you just need to alert the person on the door on arrival - someone would come from the kitchen to show me what things contained nuts. Cons -we really missed having a kettle or coffee making facilities in the room. Perhaps there could be a drinks station in the lobby if there isn't facility for this in rooms -the mattress had a crinkly/squeaky texture to it and not the most comfortable (bedding was very comfy though) -poolside bar seemed to have random opening hours, one day we were able to have lunch and another day at the same time it was inexplicably closed -lack of a bar area at night - I believe the 'bar' advertised is just a small corner of the buffet restaurant where you can order drinks. It feels that it's missing a separate area to relax after dinner. - you had to pay a deposit for pool towels and hand them back in at the end of the stay which felt unnecessary and slightly incongruous with the style of hotel Despite a few minor constructive criticisms as above our stay was overwhelmingly positive and we would definitely come back in future!

Fabulous location overlooking the Douro river. Great place for families. Rooms were good. Clean and comfortable. Ours usually weren't made up until at least 5.pm but as we were out either by the pool or exploring it wasn't a problem but cant give it a 4/5 star rating because of that. Staff were very friendly. Food was good but not outstanding. Highly recommend eating at the lower restaurant one night as the location is stunning.

Not even close to a 4 star hotel. So many missed opportunities here for better customer service and amenities. The hotel is literally in the middle of a vineyard, yet it is difficult to get a glass of wine. No welcome drink. No wine glasses in the room. No tissues in the room. No coffee maker (since we did not have a suite.) Many, many steps on the property. If you are over the age of 60, you probably should stay elsewhere. No room service. Parking is available, but extremely tight. We had to drive to breakfast due to the steps. Food options are available, but limited menus. The property is quite a few miles from the nearest town, so be prepared for more of a camping experience. The view from our room is stunning, but even that didn’t make up for the other shortcomings.

It's located at bueatiful location , has good staff, easy check-in and check-out. We stayed in suit and it was nice experiance with the good view. Property was maintined very well. Rstaurent for breakfast and dinner was amazing. Daniela (waitress) from breakfast team was super helpful, warm and helped us with so many questions around city to explore. She was one of the great person we met in portugal with smile. Must stay place for anyone visting Douro Valley.

Wow! What a great hotel, quiet and comfortable, right in the douro vineyard overlooking the river. Staff was excellent, Cuddos to Mariana at reception and Rui at the Restaurant for making us feel welcome and pampered. This place is a must, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 days despite the ragging fires burning in Portugal. Thank you 😊
