The staff were absolutely fantastic , all appeared to enjoy their job always happy !! All of them went over and above to make my stay with them really enjoyable, so a massive thank you 😇
The only thing i could moan about is no hotel car park , city prices = bloody expensive

Very good pleasant stay . Nice big , spacious room with great views . Only 1 small problem ( cold at night in room) but once we asked reception they brought us a heater straight away. Very impressed

Lovely, historic, centrally located hotel directly opposite Cardiff castle. Warm welcome, decent breakfast buffet, but rooms are a bit jaded - reflected in the very reasonable price we paid for a city centre hotel. Ancient heating system supplemented by free standing heater in room. Be aware theres no parking, and local options are very expensive - take the short walk from Sophia gardens where parking is much more reasonable.

Breakfast was nice, main entrance outside could do with a good clean, room 125 was very noisy all night due to traffic outside as windows very old and draughty quilt on bed was thin especially for winter.
Price was reasonable for two nights.

Very friendly reception staff, couldn’t comment on breakfast but I’ve read that it’s very nice, we only stayed the one night as a birthday treat for my partner, he was thrilled with our stay, the location you couldn’t fault, the only negative was there was a bit of a musty smell but that didn’t put us off, would definitely book again.

Wundow in room would not ahut although there is a screen put up it was still very draughty. Dog in room.next door constantly barked an was kept up most if the night with barking. Toilet would not fluah very good at all werent able to ise it much as we worried it would not flush.i thi k with the toilet in this condition the room should not of be able to let out until the priblem is fixed

Overall the hotel was nice, the reception area was beautiful and the staff on reception were very friendly. However I do think some improvements could be made. The room was very basic and tired, and the ceiling looked like it was about to cave in (see photo). Part of the skirting board was coming off (see other photo) which exposed some wires which looked like it could be an electrical hazard. I was also unable to have a shower before I checked out this morning as the water was lukewarm.
I was also awoken by housekeeping twice before 10am as they wanted to clean the room, even though I was checking out that morning.
I am not sure I would stay here again unless improvements were made to the rooms and the housekeeping staff did not attempt to clean rooms until after checkout time.

The historic charm of the building, paired with the holiday decorations, created a magical setting. Our room was spotless and comfortable, providing the ideal sanctuary for relaxing evenings after exploring the city. The staff were exceptional—friendly, attentive, and always happy to help, which added to the overall sense of ease during our stay.
The location couldn't have been better, with Cardiff Castle and the Christmas markets just a short walk away. After wandering the bustling streets, it was a delight to return to the calm and comfort of The Angel.
We can't recommend this hotel enough for anyone looking for a restful and heartwarming retreat. It was just what we needed, and we look forward to returning soon!
