Varoš, once a settlement built by the local farmhands and fishermen and now the city’s tourist hub with numerous konobas (taverns), restaurants, cafés, art galleries and small stores, it is a neighbourhood at the heart of Split where history and tradition are fused together to create an authentic atmosphere at every step.
A labyrinth of pedestrian streets winding around several historic churches gradually ascends towards Marjan park-forest, a protected nature reserve dubbed "the lungs of the city" by the locals.
Step outside, explore the narrow streets lined with traditional stone houses, and allow yourself to adopt the typically local laid-back lifestyle which Split is renowned for. There is hardly a more pleasant ambiance in which to wander and get lost.
