I was going to give 4 stars(very good) for our one night stay in Dec 2024, however due to the Bell desk attitude, I decided to give it an average. I have stayed at many Ryokans in Japan, when you check out and leave, hotel host, bell desk people will all see us off. This hotel is an exception, they did not seem to care if we are leaving. I suspect it is because we did not book a taxi with them, instead of called on our own. Bell boy just informed me that he could not get a taxi for me, so I had to call one myself. Nobody came out to help with the luggage and see us off. This is not a typical Japanese service. The man who works outside to direct traffic and answer question seemed to have attitude toward tourist from abroad. This is not acceptable. on the other hand, room service agent was a lovely lady, she served breakfast and dinner in our room, she was very friendly and professional. I cannot say enough good things about her and her service. Food quality was good and expected too. One bad apple ruined our whole experience with this hotel. the bell boy.

I recently stayed at Furuya Ryokan in Atami and had an exceptional experience. This historic ryokan, with over a century of history, perfectly blends traditional charm with modern comfort. My room was clean, comfortable, and had a private onsen, which was a luxurious touch. The staff were incredibly polite and attentive, making me feel very welcome. The ryokan’s location is ideal, close to the shopping street, yet it maintains a peaceful atmosphere. I highly recommend Furuya Ryokan to anyone visiting Atami for an authentic and memorable stay.

Excellent place with old school family style hospitality - in-room dining is like fine dining and room with personal hot spring tub and garden is advised. 😎

My favorite place in this Japan trip! When I first entered the room, spring water had already been prepared. Waiters greeted us from the gate and showed us how to control the devices in the room. We booked additional dinner which was served in Kaiseki way. Dinner and breakfast were both sent to the room. And staffs would help prepare the bedding. The spring was hot and comfortable. Food was excellent, too. Also, it only takes 5 min to walk to the sea. So you may want to go to see the view before check out! But it's totally ok to spend the whole day in the hotel because it was so fun. I highly recommend to take the experience in Japan.

There is not much view from the rooms but it is more than made up for with other great offerings. Some of the rooms are nicely remodeled with an exquisite bathtub crafted from solid wood in a semi-open air bathroom. The food and service is excellent!
