Starting 24 February 2025, South Korea is implementing the e-Arrival Card, a digital entry process designed to replace traditional paper arrival forms. By 2026, this system will become the only method for foreign visitors to submit their arrival details.

To allow travellers to adjust, the South Korean government has set a transition phase until December 2025. During this period, visitors can choose between submitting a paper arrival card or the e-Arrival Card. However, from January 2026 onwards, the paper form will be discontinued, and only the online pre-arrival option will be accepted.

If you’re planning a trip to South Korea, here’s everything you need to know about the e-Arrival Card and how to complete it before your journey.

About the e-Arrival Card

About the e-Arrival Card

The e-Arrival Card is a new digital system that collects essential traveller information, such as travel dates, flight details, and accommodation addresses.

This initiative aims to streamline immigration clearance, reduce processing times, and provide a smoother experience for international visitors.

Travellers Required to Complete the e-Arrival Card

Most international travellers visiting South Korea must complete the e-Arrival Card within three days before arrival. The process is free and applies to tourists, business travellers, and other short-term visitors.

Exemptions from the e-Arrival Card

Some travellers are exempt from completing the e-Arrival Card, including:

Airline crew members
Holders of a valid Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA)
Registered residents of South Korea, including holders of a Permanent Resident Card and Overseas Korean Resident Card

How to Complete the e-Arrival Card: A Step-by-Step Guide

Travellers can access the e-Arrival Card by visiting the official website www.e-arrivalcard.go.kr on a PC, using their mobile browser on a smartphone, or by scanning the QR code provided by South Korean authorities (download the QR here).

Step 1: Accept the Terms and Conditions

Agree to the platform’s terms and conditions before proceeding.
For minors under 14, a family member or guardian must submit the form on their behalf.

Step 2: Upload a Copy of Your Passport

Upload a clear photo or scanned copy of your passport’s data page.
The system will automatically extract personal details using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.

Step 3: Enter Travel Details

Provide your arrival date and flight/ship details.
Include your planned departure date and return flight number.
State your purpose of stay in South Korea.
Enter your local accommodation address and contact details.

Step 4: Submit the Declaration

Once all details are filled in, click “Submit”.
You will receive a confirmation email with your completed e-Arrival Card.
Download the PDF version or take a screenshot for easy reference.
If you need to update your information, changes can be made before passing through immigration.

Why the e-Arrival Card Matters

The e-Arrival Card simplifies South Korea’s entry process, making immigration clearance faster and more efficient. By switching to a digital system, South Korea aligns itself with other countries like Cambodia and Malaysia, which have adopted similar procedures to enhance border security and travel convenience.
