If you enjoy heritage hotels, I think you can safely ignore some of La Villa's more negative reviews. I've stayed in lots of them and, despite a few quirks, this one is an excellent example of its kind. Room: we were bowled over by our Superior Double Room. It was huge, with high ceilings, colonial decor and scads of charm. The bed was spacious and comfortable, and there was ample storage space and electrical outlets. I easily forgave some of the less desirable features: Wi-Fi was slow at times, the door key could be hard to navigate and the claw foot bathtub was awkward to shower in. Staff: every staff member we encountered was cheerful, professional and helpful, and someone was available at all times. As an English speaker, language was never a barrier. Food: the breakfast was fine, with a predictable but satisfying selection of Western and Asian options. The coffee could have been improved. Location: I really enjoyed the neighborhood, which was lively and offered a great selection of dining options, as well as the opportunity to walk along the riverside. Some reviews complain about noise from nearby bars: I heard the music but was never really bothered by it; I never even bothered to use my earplugs. In short, the place is old and scruffy and has a few quirks, but its old world charm and delightful staff more than compensate for them.

Amazing boutique hotel. Absolutely gorgeous old rooms. Original tile, switches, fans, etc., so not modern, but super beautiful and comfortable. Staff are a delight! Breakfast is fine.

We stayed one night but had two booked. We decided to leave after one night. The staff is very friendly but unfortunately this isn't enough for me at that price range. Firstly, La Villa needs a good refreshment of the rooms. We ended up on the top floor one, maintenance was clearly due. The curtains were letting lots of lights and the windows were not fitting anymore so it was quite noisy. So without full eye masks and earplugs it's almost impossible to sleep. The Bathroom was also not great with some very old fan to get humidity out where your neighbours could actually see you through when showering if they would just look. Cleaning was also not great, we found a lot of hairs sticking out of the shower drain, and dust on top of every cabinet, under the second bed and the kind of smell you get when you don't aerate a place enough (airco helped remove the smell a bit). What we didn't realize as well is that 100m from the hotel is an open air night club/bar. They were blasting very loud electronic music that could be heared until 1am even with earplugs in due to the bass vibrations. Of course that's not something the hotel can do anything for, I am surprised there are no reviews about it, but heard it was only recently re opened. The building looked really good on picture, it would be great for the owners to invest in it and give La Villa a second birth that matches its style.

Absolutely loved it. Beautiful colonial-era property full of period features and bags of character and charm. The staff are wonderful and their food (breakfasts and one lunch) are delicious. The pool area id gorgeous. A big and beautiful pool for a hotel this size and set in very pretty gardens. Highly recommended.

We got the room near the lobby at the ground floor: it was a nightmare of noise. There was also coackroaches being chased by the cat ... Breakfast was limited (no buffet and limited choice). Plugs number was also inconvenient. Bed was incredibly hard (hardest I have ever seen, like wood). Overall staff was however nice.
