Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel Golf & Spa

Staff on the desk were generally friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, I had a drip coming into my room through the ceiling and was moved after my second night.... the second room also had a drip from the sink waste pipe. The shower gel holder fell off in the middle of the night and the room's only window looked out onto a corridor (noisy and just plain weird). Both rooms were very hot (at least the window in the first room opened). From a personal point of view, I found the mattresses too soft and the pillows an awkward height. The on-site restaurant's menu sounded good but I was left disappointed each time. EV chargers in the carpark were available and all worked while I was there.

Whistle stop visit for one night - stayed here quite a few times! It's a good hotel although the lack of aircon in the rooms can make them a tad uncomfortable in summer months and even in freezing outside temps my room was roasting. That said the staff are pleasant, the room was clean and in good condition and the hotel has EV points which is a great bonus.0

Good value but shower was not warm enough

Staff were so helpful and accommodating nothing was too much for them. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who likes a bit of luxury

Lack of lounge space .bar closing to early when short of customers new years eve and day

Due to the festive season, the Spa closed early, which meant when we checked in just before 6pm, we were unable to use the facilities. I advised the staff member that this was a large factor in booking the stay but I was not made aware of the changes in spa closing times. He was brilliant and extended my checkout to 12pm as well as upgrading our room to a Privelidge room.

Easy check in, friendly staff, room was clean and comfortable. Good parking. Would recommend and stay again. No conditioner in the toiletries provided. There was shampoo, body and hand wash.

Surprised with the size of the room, very spacious with a comfortable chair to sit and relax after a hard day working, definitely one to remember next time I’m working in the area

Excellent experience.

Really like the hotel. The rooms are nice. Hotel has a gym, pool and steam room. Nice to have access to a golf course and driving range too.

Hotel room was nice we were there for a xmas do our partners came and had made reservations for the restaurant while we were in the party they were told they could not serve food until the 3 partys had been served so they had to get in a taxi to go for something to eat they arrived back at 10 got a drink in carter and miler pub and wete told they had to get out as were closing this was 10.15 there was no other bar to go to as there was 3 other functions on no bar for the hotel guest the young bar man was also rude rolling his eyes and saying it was the higher managment very poor service lots of people walking out the restaurant when they were trying to get food not good enough for this hotel spoke to reception and they said manager woukd ring no calls tho

Great stay was very impressed with the room and its amenities, have used the restaurant a few times with family but never stayed, would definitely recommend and stay again

Property interiors were basic and tired and it was so hot.

Disappointing hotel.com didn’t tell us hotel swimming pool, hot tub and sauna was out of service.

Always a great night at the George Washington

Great location, polite and friendly staff, clean room, easy parking. In terms of facilities it could have been better, the shower was temperamental and when asking fpr directions to the hotel room and to the restaurant for breakfast the member if staff while polite wasnt very clear and it is a decent sized hotel so we got lost our bearings a couple times.

Nice hotel and staff pleasant. Restaurant isn't great in terms of service. Can lack friemdly face and twice ive had staff walk off from bar to deliver a drink or food without a courteous "Give me 2 mins and i will be right with you" etc. Feels rude. Also lack of attention by staff leaves guests waiting for menus and then once food arrived (steak & chips) they forgot chips !!. Poor attention to detail. No cider as sold out day before & other drinks i heard. Guy sat next to me ordered a pint 10 mins before food arrived and it turned up 45 mins later at which point he'd already finished food and chased staff for said drink so ended up with another. Really need a smile and better communication.
