Second time staying at The George.
Confusion at check in we had booked a pet friendly room which the hotel had no record of. I did have the emails to confirm this but the hotel managed to find a pet friendly room, not sure what would have happened if there wasn’t one available!
Nice staff and very nice well catered for breakfast and a very pet friendly hotel which is important to us.

The staff were helpful the food was poor and very expensive ( pay extra for cappuccino at breakfast) .Buffet breakfast very poor worthy of the most basic chain travel hotels .

This historic hotel has charm! The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet. It's in a great location.
No air conditioning, but a fan was provided and the windows opened, so it was fine. The food in the restaurant was mediocre.

Older hotel (stairs only-- no lift) but fairly pleasant. Decent and clean room. Dining/breakfast options were just "OK"--not terribly good or exciting.
You have to call for your own taxis, which is rather annoying in a "full service" hotel; I was unable to get any taxi co to take me to the rail station, but the front desk lady was super helpful and found a solution--so kudos for that!

Booked late whilst on the motor knowing we had to stop. Receptionist was so helpful. Got an email confirmation with postcode to car park. Great service throughout stay.
Breakfast was great. Huge selection. Lovely percolated coffee
