Can't book Matsuyama Youth Hostel online anywhere, so we had a Japanese friend book for us as we heard they were helpful in providing assistance for traversing some of the Henro Pilgrimage. They put us (foreigners) on the 4th floor even though barely anyway else was staying there, and the bathrooms were unclean.There was an age-old used tampon in one of the bins (no bin liner and left open) so we assumed no one had bothered to clean there in a while. This being said, we paid 1,100 yen for a dinner and it was spectacular, home cooked Bachan vibe, lots of different tastes and was scrumptious. Saved the stay, but wouldn't go back.

I stayed two nights. It was very reasonably priced, but the hostel didn't impress me much in terms of amenities or atmosphere. Aside from the other person in my dorm, I was by far the youngest traveler staying there, and the only woman. It seemed totally deserted except at mealtimes. The lounges were always empty. I probably wouldn't choose to stay here again unless I really needed to save money.

Good and cheap. Very few people when I was there so they gave me a big room all to my self with a private toilet and wash basin. They are close to the famous Dogo Onsen so I was able to relax in a nice bath there.

Very kind and helpful host but place didn’t feel very clean and the wifi is really poor. Good location. And very reasonable. But wouldn’t return here.

Really happy with this quaint hostel - traditional accommodation, breakfast and most importantly hospitality. It was very good value for money!
