Just a tip for those like us who are new to "no-receptionist check-in" stay-in/hotel/motel, make sure to check your email for the Room Number and Security Code. We got our "room information" via email, sent two days before the start of our stay. I highly suggest to arrive at location and check-in as early as allowed to give ample time to rectify any issues, and to pre-register/check-in. For example, in our case, we booked this December 2024 and it's snowing in Nikko, we arrived at our room around 6:30 PM and it's really cold. Without the room code, or if there was an issue, we could have been stranded out in the open. This place is walkable from the two train stations: the JR Nikko Station and the Tobu Nikko Station. It is a lot closer to JR Nikko Station, by about 2 min walk so it's still a good 10min-15min walk from either stations. If you have a lot of luggages (or really heavy ones), I recommend to book a taxi to get to the location since the path/road has a lot of uneven areas. There is a nearby 7-Eleven that is open 24hrs, it's a decent store and have available food, drinks and other essential amenities. The place is clean, great onsen, decent kitchen, nice shower. My only complaint is the isolated toilet, as there is no separate faucet that has "warm" water for washing hands. In our room, the "faucet" is built to the toilet bowl, and water pours down during the flush but it is so cold, and the faucet stops after the flushing stops.

Rakuten Stay Nikko Hoden was a great hotel. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. We loved the private onsen and the kitchen was a great plus! We will definitely stay here again when we return to Nikko!

Don't be afraid to book this place. Unlike the previous reviews which I also read, we didn't get stranded outside and check in was a breeze! Make sure to check your email the night before you arrive! A key code and check in instructions are all there. It took 5 minutes to check in on the tablet once inside since I filled out the registration (link found in the email) prior to arriving. The link will ask you to for the names and a picture of your pasport of each guest. Providing your pasport is not unusual in Japan. Every hotel will ask you to make a copy as required by law for security reasonsI liked the spacious studio apartment for my family. Lots of room/space to unwind after a busy day. The bed comforters were very warm- a plus for the chilly autumn nights. A quick 10 min walk to JR Nikko station, 13mins to Tobu Nikko. Welcia and 7-11 were very close by and was great option for food to bring back to our place to eat or cook. Only downside was that they didn't provide any laundry detergent and the dryer function on the washer/dryer machine didn't work. We ended up buying some detergent from Welcia and found a clothes rack in the closet to hang our clothes on to dry.

Spacious apartment with a washer dryer combo. Multiple seating and bedding options. Full kitchen for making meals at "home." Great place for a family with younger kids to stay, especially since some of us weren't feeling well and didn't want to leave the apartment.

Just so you know it’s a 15 min walk south of the station and it’s in a residential area so very few amenities/restaurants around - there is a 7/11 nearby but we had to walk 15 min north to find a restaurant - everything books early so by 7 all booked or closed. We found a lovely izakaya which opened late which was very good

We love the walking distance from Tobu Nikko Station. We love how spacious the unit was. However if you are on the ground floor you can hear the upstairs noise of people walking and stomping.

Really like this apt like hotel. We can relax and cook after day of sightseeing. The room is so spatious that we missed it so much after returning back to Tokyo. The big bath soak is so nice. I do recommend taking a taxi to and from the the train station if you have large suitcases with you. The taxi cost only about 1000jpy using the Go app.

The room was very spacious, clean, and full of nice amenities. Nikko is such a beautiful town full of great places to see. There was a lack of communication that made the check-in process difficult.

Large and modern apartments which we were impressed with, we liked the movie projector and room setup. Well-stocked with even some laundry detergent which we found helpful. Nearby 7-11. Only thing to note to future travellers is that it’s about a 15 min walk from the station / main town area (we didn’t find this to be an issue however, and you can walk via some of the quieter back streets), but would recommend getting a taxi if you don’t have a car and are coming from the station with a lot of luggage.

This was a great place to stay for our family of 4. The amenities were plentiful. Very clean. I would definitely stay here again and stay at other locations offered by Rakuten STAYs. The only trouble we had was the parking. The parking information needs to be more detailed in the check in process before guests arrive.... someone had already parked in our spot number before we arrived. It was clear to us that we were supposed to only park in our assigned number, but I suppose others need it explained to them CLEARLY before they arrive to avoid issues for other guests. Other than that, it was great!

It is a whole new building with several apartments. It's located around 10 minute walk from JR Nikko train station. The apartment we stayed is brand new and loaded. One wasing / drying machine is so convenient. The small kitchen served our group of 5 people well. Artificial onsen right in the apartment was so nice. We did not need a car; however, there is parking spaces reserved for each apartment.

Be aware that these units are 1 bedroom with 2 double beds and a living room with 2 double futons there are not 2 separate bedrooms. We would not have booked this property for our trip as we really needed 2 separate bedrooms for one couple to sleep in the living room wasn’t what we expected with no privacy.

Super clean and very well furnished apartments, spacious and has everything you would need for your stay. Really enjoyed our stay here. However the automated check-in process is super cumbersome. You have to do a pre check-in, then upon arrival have to do another tedious process.
