Lovely hotel. The food and service at the restaurant was really exceptional. Bar and restaurant have been beautifully decorated too. Stunning gardens and sea views. Only downside is that the 'spa' isn't really a spa - there are treatment rooms and a sauna but they are in very different parts of the hotel, and there is no hot tub.

We came to this beautiful little hotel for Christmas and it’s going to be our new holiday tradition. The staff in every department is excellent, and the food was fantastic (we are vegan and all of our needs were easily met). All we can say is “wow”. And obrigada. And see you again soon! Cannot wait to go back.

***Stay clear, unless you want to pay to be ignored and forgotten~ Horrible service*** This hotel should have been one of the more enjoyable moments of our trip to Portugal. However, service at this hotel was horrible for us. Upon our arrival, we immediately knew that local patrons were their priority as the restaurant is open to the public and it seems that the locals are the staff’s favorites. Just trying to call down to the restaurant and front desk to reserve a table was a nightmare, and finally, after eventually getting through, we were told they could barely accommodate us with nearly two hours left being open and several tables empty. The front desk said we had to hurry to be there so one would assume they were very busy as they never answered the phone and made us feel rushed, but when we arrived, several tables were empty, staff was plentiful, and our service was slow to non existent. We sat for over ten minutes, being ignored by several staff and the manager walking by us before our drink order was taken, so we placed both our drink order and food order all together. Once we were served, the food was under cooked. The waiter was condescending, as we explained this to him when he asked how our meal was, and said it was because we never had scallops before. I cleared that assumption up quickly, but he continued to give his critic of the food and failed to listen to ours. We were not trying to complain, just gave our honest response to his question when asked how the food was. Beware if you actually do try to complain about the food our service here. They have a it’s a you problem and not theirs. Don’t take it wrong, the restaurant part was not the only issue we had here, just the most unenjoyable of all our issues. We had purchased our own bottle of wine to enjoy by the pool and was charged an uncorking fee. All in all, for a high priced “boutique hotel,” I would put this the worst part of our 42 day trip to Europe. What a shame, the location was nice and the rooms, and which come at a price, did have some nice views. However, not worth the money if they make you stay miserable. Wait staff was seen being very attentive to the others, who I believed are the locals, but I would rate service for the hotel guests as horrible. This place is a tourist trap and very commercialized. You will get much better service in town and other hotels.

This is a really lovely, very reasonably priced (we thought) hotel, which, with a few minor improvements, could be exceptional. My friend and I stayed for 3 nights in separate rooms for a relaxing, sunny break. What we loved: - The location and the building. Wow, it’s just gorgeous. What a view. Tucked away on a cliff top a 5 min drive out of town (Ubers arrive within minutes and are €4-5 each way), this is a (very) old traditional Portuguese building with outstanding gardens and a real sense of peace and a relaxed vibe. It’s very quiet except for the crashing of the waves, wind in the trees, and the birds. It’s very calming. - Our rooms were lovely, even though we went for the most basic (cheapest) and had no view or outside space. Bed and bedding were so comfortable, the bathroom was large and had an excellent shower and Rituals toiletries. The TV had a very large selection of channels. Air conditioning was effective and quiet and there was loads of wardrobe space. Rooms were also spotless - in fact the whole hotel was so clean, they have a brilliant gang of cleaning staff. It was so quiet at night, I really grew to love my little room! - The food (lunch and dinner) was very, very good. There are clearly some talented chefs in this kitchen! Special mention goes to the Caesar salad (best I’ve ever had), beef carpaccio, and prawn pasta - so fresh with unbelievable flavour. - The spa is lovely and the treatments we had were, although not cheap, very good indeed. I’ve spent a lot of money over the years on hotel massages that amount to a gentle stroking…not here! I was thoroughly pummelled during my Therapeutic Massage and felt fantastic afterwards. Highly recommended. The gorgeous smells from the spa mean the whole hotel smells great too - it’s lovely walking in each day. - The staff were all very lovely, friendly people and lots of them were very attentive and good at their jobs…however… What we think could make staying here even better: - Breakfast is rather disappointing and the cooked options are limited. The service at breakfast was poor. Forgotten orders, not getting menus for 20 mins, and just generally very slow. They seemed to have some young, very new staff who didn’t seem to “get it”. - The beautiful grassed area by the pool was not serviced at all. We (and other guests) had to get our own sun lounger cushions and nobody from the bar ever walks around asking guests if they would like drinks. We had to go up into the bar area each time we wanted a drink - sometimes the staff would bring these down to us, but on one occasion I was told I had to come back to get the drinks myself. Very inconsistent. Also, glasses and empty bottle etc were not cleared away for hours and hours in the garden. The staff just never seem to venture down there at all. I think the hotel is missing a trick - if they had a small, manned bar next to the pool they would make a fortune! - The pool was not clean. There was a net by the side of the pool but I didn’t see anyone use it for three days. There are large trees (with lots of birds in them) over the pool, so it was pretty dirty. Such a shame as it’s a lovely, heated pool and to not clean it really is not acceptable. Overall, we would love to return, this is a very special and beautiful corner of the planet with some lovely people - just a bit more service training for a few staff would make it truly amazing.
