I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you're extra careful. While it has some positives, my experience was far from what I expected from a "5-star" property. The Good: 1. The breakfast area offers a nice view of the Duoro River, but as mentioned by other reviewers, there are plenty of other places with the same scenic view (like the Louis I Bridge), so it’s not as unique as it’s made out to be. 2. The breakfast selection is decent. There's enough variety to start your day. 3. The reception service is okay, receptionists are friendly though not on par with what we expect from a 5-star hotel. For example, no one assisted us with our luggage, which I thought was a basic expectation at this level. The Bad: 1. Shower Area: The shower floor is dangerously slippery. I actually slipped and hurt myself. Thankfully, it wasn’t too serious (though it still left a mark after 1 week), but I’d strongly advise anyone staying here to put a towel on the floor in the shower to prevent a fall. 2. Shampoo and Shower Gel: Both the shampoo and shower gel were watery and ineffective, basically just diluted liquids that didn’t lather or clean properly. This is something you definitely wouldn’t expect at a so-called 5-star hotel. Overall, this place feels more like a 3-star experience.

The service here is lovely, everyone is very helpful, the rooms are nice but a little small. The location is nice and quiet but still easy to get into the city or along the coast. Easy access the river which you can walk along. The breakfast is disappointing, the pastries do not seem fresh.

The service was exceptional; Soraia, in particular, provided outstandingly friendly and helpful assistance. Our stay coincided with my birthday, and the staff made it a truly memorable occasion. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and plan to return.

I had an amazing stay at the Pestana Douro Riverside Hotel! The views of the Douro River were spectacular. The staff, especially Ana Alves, was outstanding and made my experience very enjoyable. The rooms were elegantly designed, and the restaurant served exquisite local dishes. Overall, a fantastic retreat—highly recommend!
