Graduate by Hilton Berkeley

I loved the creative decor, the spaciousness of the room, and the pleasantness of the staff. The only thing I did not care for was my location right next to the elevator — a bit noisy.

The property is nice and classic Northern California. It’s a hit dated and needs the elevator fixed but all in all it is my favorite place to stay when visiting kids at Cal.

This hotel was a great surprise. Location, style, comfort and service were excellent. We walked to coffee shops, restaurants and to explore the Berkeley campus. A second shout out to service, everyone was super friendly and helpful.

Really quaint! And comfortable

This place is very quaint, but sometimes it seems a little bit worn. The bed was a little old. The air conditioner unit was also old (and noisy; I had to turn it off). However, I slept fine, and the staff was really very pleasant. I love the area as well. This is the third time I’ve stayed there, and my impression is fairly consistent about it.

The bathrooms and sinks were too little and they’re no slippers in the rooms especially when floors are hardwood.

Loved being steps away from campus and all the neat college memoriabilia design details..

Has a cute older charm to it and the area was very walkable to many bars, food options, and the Greek Theater. Had a few cleanliness issues and the walls are paper thin.

Liked the automatic front doors and how close it was to campus. Room had a tiny sink, no fan in bathroom, bathtub/shower had no slip pads - felt unsafe, no microwave. Bar drinks were overpriced koolaid. Coffee at cafe was good.

Way back when I was an undergrad at UC Berkeley, The Graduate (formerly the Hotel Durant) was the place where you had your parents stay if you wanted a nice, old school place for them close to campus. Decades later, it’s still a landmark and institution — conveniently located on the south side of school, close to the cafes, eateries, the Unit dorms, and hangout spots next to Telegraph Avenue. The rooms really lean into the retro dorm decor, including movie posters of The Graduate (partly filmed at Berkeley; one of the ivy-covered frat houses featured in the movie is just up the street) and room keys that look like classic student IDs. I personally loved it, though some may opt for more modern aesthetics. I’m a big fan of the lobby which has the feel of a quiet, welcoming study. There are leather booths next to the window facing the street — great spots to relax and study at any time of day. Easy access to Henry’s, the hotel bar. I recommend this place for a convenient, comfortable, and classic taste of Berkeley.

We were told 24 hours before that there would not be parking on site due to a tail gating event.I would have booked somewhere else had I known that. We do not go to the Bay Area often and having on site parking was important to us. I called to see if they would reimburse for our parking fees and they said no. Loud noise coming from AC, conditioner bottle was empty, no bath stopper, service at dinner was awful. Food wasn't great. Overall, not a great experience.

We had a great stay. The elevators both made us nervous. Bar was great. Cafe associated to the hotel had pretty mediocre coffee drinks. And baked goods. Nobody drank much of theirs or ate their baked selections. But we loved the room.
