Great place to stay for a weekend away

Room was very clean, comfortable. Inconvenient with only 1 entrance way into hotel. Emma was very helpful/polite as receptionist.

This hotel was GORGEOUS. In an old historic building, they did a wonderful job preserving the vintage qualities. Super quiet building besides the train every now and then. If you're a light sleeper ask to be put on the opposite side. Great location and I loved that they gave discounts at nearby restaurants. I'll be staying here again.

Very cute Victorian style hotel!

Walls are incredibly thin - so thin you can articulate every syllable of your neighbors on both sides conversations (and vice-verse). Do not consider staying here if you want any peace and quiet.

Great old-fashioned hotel that has been remodeled very nicely. It looks good. It’s clean and smells nice throughout.

The check in process was awful. They gave us keys that didn’t work. Turns out the room was already occupied. It took over a half an hour to get it all straightened out.

Uncomfortable bed. Older property. Definitely not a 4 star hotel, as advertised.

This is a unique property with great ambience and a spectacular restaurant. The rooms are cute and have high ceilings. Biggest downside is zero insulation between rooms or floors. We could hear every word from the neighboring room. Also, the floors are old and squeaky and you can hear any move made by the people on the floor above you. While we will return to the fabulous Gilded Unicorn restaurant located in the basement, we will not stay in this hotel in the future.

Great place to stay

First time at the Montvale. Exceeded our ecxpectations.

The vintage aspect of the hotel is amazing. We stayed in the Eisenhower suite which was very spacious. Loved the fireplace! There were a few cobwebs in the lighting fixture, a quite a few stains on the carpet but overall was very clean. My only issue was the pedestal sink in the bathroom. There is no real place to set up for makeup and what not. Overall, I would recommend staying here it was worth it.

Restaurant wasn't open for service. Walls were so thin we heard conversation, at 3:30am, next door. I was told we would get receipt in our email and we haven't seen it yet. You can't call and talk to anyone at the property regarding this issue. I retired from hotel ownership/management after 40 years and these issuses are unacceptable.

The unloading zone was occupied by maintenance trucks, we were charged for hotel parking. Lots of homeless people hanging around.

Very cool ambiance! Royal, Old English decor with boutique style vibes. The comforts are minimal, but were enough for me. The service was suspect, but if you can get through your stay without needing anything then it works great for that purpose.

Love love the Montvale Quirky, awesome vibe. Great staff and who doesn’t like the Gilded Unicorn! Thought I have not found all the unicorns yet

Beautiful historic hotel with cozy rooms. Our room and bath is spacious with high ceilings. A great central location. The Unicorn bar is a must to drink and dine. It is quite charming.

It was a quality hotel!

Super cute hotel. It was just one night for us. We had a late check in so didn't explore much if anything. Beds were very comfortable, our fridge was for whatever reason very loud & actually woke me up a couple times. Never did I think "just unplug it" so that was silly. Staff was great. Had to park a little farther if you had to take multiple trips. I would definitely stay again! Beautiful place.

Imagine being in a deep sleep in the dead of night, safe in what you thought was your private, secure hotel room, only to wake up to the sound of your door opening—and there, in the darkness, stands a man dressed in all black. It was absolutely terrifying. My girlfriend and I were frozen in shock, staring at this stranger in our doorway, our hearts racing. I immediately went to the front desk to report this, and their response? It was an ‘accident.’ Apparently, they have security doing vacancy room checks at….2 a.m. !! Who in their right mind thinks this is okay? And even if you were conducting checks, how do you not verify whether a room is occupied? This felt like such a violation of our safety and trust. If you stay here, be prepared for the possibility that someone might barge into your room in the middle of the night, when you’re at your most vulnerable. The only way we could sleep was securing the door with a chair. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone—it was traumatic and completely unacceptable. update: the hotel called and was very empathic to the situation. They informed me that they would be making changes so this would not happen again and I have faith that they will implement these changes
