Palihotel is so charming and cute. It had everything I needed and then some. Amazing roof top deck, the restaurant is yum. Comedy club and authentic taco joint right next door. Great place to hang out while you are waiting for your flight upon checkout. Nice central location with a 20 min drive to La Jolla.

Decent room for the price. TV and AC in the room didn’t work, plus parking in the area is a hassle if you don’t do it through the overpriced valet service. One of the elevators was not working and made going to and from our floor difficult. Overall the stay was good for what it was but will probably not be coming back in the near future.

Rooms were good , smaller than I anticipated but really just used for sleeping , One elevator was down , understandable because the building is very old . I loved the bathroom , the tile was beautiful , I had a very large bathroom which I liked . Location was good for the Gaslamp experience. Overall good stay. The rooftop area is cute , bar not open in the winter.

The hotel was funky and fun, the restaurant was very good, and the staff was super. Unfortunately the room was really disappointing - tiny, barely room to move around the bed, and a heater that sounded like an idling truck engine.

I didn’t like that the hotel doesn’t disclose that “pet friendly” isn’t clarified in the fact that they’re going to charge 100$ fee. And after already paying for the room, I didn’t have much of a choice to cancel the room due to me already paying for it. So the hotel puts you in a position where they’re going to twist your arm into forking over money. Which is honestly a sleazy thing to do to people. Also, they don’t bother cleaning the rooms we left a sign on the door requesting cleaning room services and it never came. The hotel clerk at check in seemed unhelpful and didn’t have any interest in the issues we experienced. When I mentioned that nobody came to clean the room his response verbatim was “I don’t know what to tell you”. Not only that I smelled alcohol in his breathe and seemed to have either been drinking alcohol prior to check out or during the time he was at work. Overall bad experience won’t be coming here again. But will definitely expose this place.

I recently stayed here and was disappointed by a couple of issues. One of the elevators wasn’t working, causing long wait times and inconveniences. On top of that, the room itself was much smaller than advertised and barely had a window. Staff & Service was great.

Great stay, everything is perfect, attention to detail everywhere and very charming place. Noise from street is noticeable but nothing that can be done by the property. Terrace is beautiful.

awesome location and far from the experience of a "chain" hotel. great "old style" gaited elevator (historic) and the roof was amazing but unfortunately roof bar was not open. price point was great and room was smallish but well decorated and had all I needed and the Gaslamp district was right out the door. relatively easy walk to conference center and this hotel was closer to where you want to be for dining etc than the big expensive hotels by conference center. would happily stay again.

Good hotel, very quaint and historic. Had only 1 functional elevator that was really some work to operate because it was truly an antique elevator from 1913. Room was really good, but very cramped - hardly enough space to walk around. Not enough storage space for items. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Attached restaurant is Ok. Safe neighborhood.

The property has a nostalgic New York style Old School hotel feeling. Great French restaurant attached to the lobby. Everything was perfect, except the 1923 elevators that were very slow and difficult to work with the double door challenge. I was there for a difficult family task that I had only mentioned in passing and on my last night, there was a tray on my bed with a bottle of wine, wine glass, cookies, chocolate and a hand written note from the staff hoping it all turns out well. I was very touched.

I love the Palihotels. They find elegant, historic properties and renovate them with high quality finishes (and extremely comfortable beds) while preserving their unique character. In this case, the tiny elevator (only 1 of 2 worked) is from 1913. Once the fastest in the world, it's fun to try, though a little treacherous to operate. (Forget it if you're not reasonably strong, or else a kid.) Get used to long waits. I'd suggest installing a regular elevator, too, or else would reserve a room not above the 5th floor to use the wide, carpeted staircase! There's plenty of comfortable communal workspace if you have a smaller room, and a beautiful rooftop with lots of greenery, comfy couches and fantastic views.

Only issue i had was Valet. They didn't seem to have a good system. Had to ask several times if they were getting the car. And the final time I asked they didnt know whether they had pulled the car up yet.

This is a nicely restored Art Nouveau hotel with a lovely rooftop with city views and a friendly staff. However there is a “destination fee” of $25 per night, which only shows up after you’ve spent a lot of time selecting all the package details for your trip. And for what? To walk up and down 8 flights of stairs when one of the two antique elevators is not working (the other is totally out of service)? For a tiny room with 6 hangers on a rod above the minibar with no drawers/closet to store your clothes? For maid service that doesn’t empty the one small garbage in the bathroom or supply more coffee daily? To be woken up with so much shouting in the street that it sounds like a riot? For a mini fridge that is so packed with items for sale that there is no room for your own items? I don’t like to complain about these small issues, but in light of them a “destination fee” is not warranted.
