I booked on the 2nd day of Tet so it was quite crowded, but thanks to booking in advance on traveloka, I had priority in line. Having lived in SG since I was young, I rarely actually go sightseeing around SG, so this was quite an interesting experience. I booked my parents to go together and they were very happy.

Luckily, I went when the weather was nice and cool. The departure was on time too. The car ran safely even though I went at 6:00 PM, rush hour, and the road was very crowded. A great experience that I think I might bring my family to experience next time.

We chose night time so we could see the lights from buildings and ships passing by on the river. Visit several famous spots such as the war remains museum. Just need to be careful not to get hit by low tree branches.

It's worth experiencing. There is support for changing time very well. In the afternoon, you can watch the sunset in Saigon, but it's easy to get stuck in traffic. Will experience it again in the evening 😀

I booked the 3pm trip but the bus didn't arrive until 3:30pm. I waited for a bus from Nguyen Hue to transfer to CXParis and was able to change to another bus, but the bus started at 3:40pm and ended at 4:10pm, then returned to NgHue station and ended. I didn't see it going to Thu Duc District 2 like the last time I took it. The route for this trip was not worth the money spent.

The support staff is enthusiastic. But the audio guide is very disappointing. I heard that there is audio guide in different languages, but when I experienced it, there was none, only music. (Foreigners are a bit disappointed)

Night ride in the summer time is great, still there is an hour to enjoy the city covered by neon lights, traffic jam, and vibrant noise. Long Q for the bus & we dont really have to be punctual coz as soon as we arrive at the pick-up destination, we can immediately join the line to wait for next bus. We booked bus at 8.30pm but eventually we got the bus at 7.45pm instead.

I bought a ticket for the 4:30 p.m. flight, but due to traffic jams, I arrived close to time. The staff enthusiastically supported me and let me take the next trip. And you can go to the bus and buy a ticket for any trip to go immediately, no need to buy in advance. With the price of traveling for 1 hour, I think it's worth it!

Certain times are considered ideal for visiting due to favorable weather conditions and fewer crowds. The best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City ultimately depends on your personal preferences and priorities.

While the peak season offers pleasant weather and a busy ambience, the shoulder season and off-peak season provide opportunities for a more peaceful and budget-friendly experience. If you prefer dry season, you can visit during December to April and stroll around the city with the sunny weather. But if you choose to more laid-back and less crowded, you can visit between April to November. No matter when you choose to visit, the city is sure to captivate you with its unique charm and culture.

Attractions and Things to Do in Ho Chi Minh City

Now, time to curate and list what things to do in Ho Chi Minh! Here’s a closer look at some of the must-visit attractions:

Chu Chi Tunnel

The Cu Chi Tunnels are one of the most famous historical sites in Vietnam, offering a glimpse into the underground life of Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War. These tunnels played a significant role in the war effort, serving as a base for military operations, living quarters, and supply routes.

You can explore a section of the vast tunnel network, which stretches over 250 kilometres. The tunnels have been widened slightly to accommodate tourists, but they still offer an authentic experience of what it was like to live and move through these narrow, dark passageways. Guided tours are available, providing insights into the tunnel's construction, daily life underground, and the clever strategies used by the Vietnamese soldiers.

In addition to crawling through the tunnels, you may want to see the exhibits of traps used during the war, watch documentary films about the history of the area, and even try their hand at firing a variety of guns used during the conflict at a nearby shooting range.

Independence Palace

Independence Palace, also known as Reunification Palace, is a significant historical landmark in Ho Chi Minh City. It was the site where the Vietnam War effectively ended in 1975 when a North Vietnamese tank crashed through its gates. Today, the palace stands as a symbol of peace and reunification, attracting tourists who are interested in Vietnam's history.

Built in the 1960s, the palace’s design is a mix of modernist architecture with traditional Vietnamese elements. Explore the various rooms that have been preserved during the 1970s, including the President’s office, meeting rooms, and the basement bunker, which houses a war command centre complete with maps, communication equipment, and old radios.

Ho Thi Ky Flower Market

To enjoy the colors and flavors of local life, Ho Thi Ky Flower Market is the place to be. As the largest wholesale flower market in Ho Chi Minh City, it is a bustling hub of activity, especially in the morning when the freshest flowers arrive. Located in District 10, the market is a maze of stalls filled with a wide variety of flowers, from roses and lilies to orchids and daisies.

The market operates 24 hours a day, but the best time to visit is early in the morning or late at night when the flowers are freshest and the market is at its busiest. The vibrant displays and sweet fragrances make it a pleasant place to be. It is a popular spot not only for locals buying flowers for weddings, funerals, and other special occasions, but also for photographers looking to capture the beauty of everyday life in the city.

Besides flowers, you'll also find stalls selling other items such as fruits, vegetables, and even some traditional Vietnamese street food.

Tips to Enjoy Ho Chi Minh City

If you are a first-time to visit Ho Chi Minh City, worry not, check out these essential tips to make the most of your trip. This guide provides valuable tips to help you navigate the city like a pro and create unforgettable memories.

Stay Hydrated and Dress Comfortably

The weather in Ho Chi Minh City is typically hot and humid like other countries in Southeast Asia, especially during the dry season from December to April. It’s essential to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the day. Wear light, breathable clothing, and comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to do a lot of walking. A hat and sunglasses are also good ideas to protect yourself from the sun.

Carry Cash and Be Aware of Pickpockets

While many places in Ho Chi Minh City accept credit cards, cash is still king, especially in markets, street food stalls, and smaller shops. Carry small denominations of Vietnamese Dong for easy transactions. Be mindful of your belongings as well, particularly in crowded areas like markets and public transport, as pickpocketing can be a concern. Use a money belt or a secure bag to keep your valuables safe.

Visit Early or Late to Avoid Crowds

Many of the city’s attractions, like the War Remnants Museum and Ben Thanh Market, can get crowded during peak hours. To avoid the crowds and have a more pleasant experience, try visiting these places early in the morning or later in the afternoon. This will also help you avoid the midday heat, making your sightseeing more comfortable.
