In Sabak Bernam District, Selangor, Malaysia, lies a small town named Sekinchan. Meaning “village suitable for plantation" in Chinese, Sekinchan is one of the major rice-producing areas of Malaysia. The weather and the land are suitable for rice, fruits, and oil palm trees farming. The vast, well-irrigated, and organized paddy fields around the town produce one of the highest yields of rice in the country; with 4,300 acres in total of paddy and fruits farming lands. The moment you step into this town, you’ll be greeted by a sea of emerald green rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see.
Not only is it a home for the state’s paddy rice, Sekinchan is also known as a lively fishing village due to its location along the coastal Federal Route 5: one of the three north-south oriented backbone federal roads running along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. One of the main fishing villages in Sekinchan is Bagan, nestled along the river and small seaport southwest of the town. In the Bagan fishing village, the visitors can find numerous best seafood restaurants, mostly open from 8 am to 3 pm only. Besides, you can buy fresh seafood and local snacks–one of the most recommended is keropok–to bring home in the seafood stores/markets around this village.
Since Bagan fishing village isn’t available at night, you can give a visit during the midday. Meanwhile, for nighttime fun in Sekinchan, check out these top attractions and things to do in Sekinchan:

Located in 25, Jalan Jpt, 45400 Sekinchan, Selangor, there’s one most-visited beach in town that may not be the best beach in Malaysia, but still worth checking out. Try visiting in the evening, since this is the perfect spot for sunset-watching; you can lie on a hammock while getting immersed in the breathtaking scenery and take pictures. Enjoy your coconut water, ice cream, and sugar-cane juice from the stalls around the area; and take a chance to fly a kite because it’s quite windy there.

Sekinchan is acknowledged as “the rice bowl of Selangor”, so the town’s top sight might be the paddy fields. They offer different perspectives around the year: in March and September, the rice transplanting period, the view of the fields may be green, yet during the harvest season: June and December, the field will look golden yellow. In midday, you can go cycling along the paddy fields, visit rice mill factory and paddy gallery, or fish eels in the fields. Meanwhile, in the evening or at night, you can still admire the beauty of the fields by listening to the symphony of crickets, feeling the night breeze, stargazing, or capturing the moonlit magic.

Situated in Redang Beach, Sekinchan Wishing Tree is another popular attraction in town that has attracted numerous local and international tourists. This culturally significant site allows the visitors to participate in the local tradition of making wishes by writing them on red ribbons and tying them to the tree. The thousand of colorful ribbons, then, create a lively display of the tree, making it photo-worthy. It’s said that the higher the ribbon dangling, the more likely the wishes will come true.
