Heyy Travellers! Get ready for even smoother journeys between Malaysia and China! A landmark agreement has just been officially confirmed in April 2025, establishing permanent mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports between the two nations.
This exciting development means citizens of both countries can now enjoy visa-free stays of up to 30 days per visit, making travel for tourism, business, or visiting loved ones easier and more accessible than ever before, without worrying about previous temporary expiry dates for this category.
Planning a slightly longer holiday, a quick business trip, or just popping over to see family just got wayyy easier. No more stressing about visa applications or fretting about a temporary free pass running out!
It all kicked off when Malaysia and China were celebrating their 50 years of friendship back in late 2023. To really boost travel and make things easier, they decided to have a 'go' at temporary visa-free visits first. Malaysia went first, offering visa-free entry for Chinese citizens from 1st December 2023 (this was initially planned to run until the end of 2026).
Not to be outdone, China also started allowing Malaysians to visit visa-free for 30 days, kicking off on 30th November 2024. This one was initially set to finish on 31st December 2025. This temporary free pass was for folks with both regular and official passports, covering trips for holidays, business, just passing through, seeing family, or joining exchange programmes.
A spokesperson from China's Foreign Ministry, Mr Lin Jian, mentioned that the aim of these waivers was really to get more people travelling back and forth, make interactions cosier, cooperation in various areas smoother, and help Malaysia and China feel more like one big community.
And then came the big, permanent news in April 2025! Turns out, the visa-free 'trial period' wasn't just extended. In April 2025, Malaysia and China officially signed a proper agreement that makes this back-and-forth visa-free rule PERMANENT especially for those with ordinary passports!
So, basically, the 30-day visa-free travel for ordinary passport holders isn't just a temporary thing anymore – it's a long-term deal signed, sealed, and delivered, with no expiry date in sight for that passport type!
This permanent policy genuinely makes life much simpler for us travellers. No more faffing about with visa applications for short visits. You're free to explore awesome places, try yummy food, or sort out business without the hassle.
It's a real sign of how committed both countries are to being great mates and making it easy for their citizens to pop over and visit!
With this extended stay, Malaysians can now take their time to explore every corner of China. Let me break it down for you like I’m chatting with a close friend:
Okay, picture this—you’re standing on the Great Wall of China, soaking in centuries of history and miles of jaw-dropping scenery. It’s surreal, right? And if that’s not enough, there’s Guilin—think postcard-perfect landscapes with karst mountains and dreamy rivers. It’s nature at its absolute best!

You know what’s better than drooling over food videos? Actually eating the real deal in China! Imagine biting into the crispy, perfectly roasted Peking duck in Beijing or losing yourself in the spicy, bold flavours of Sichuan cuisine straight from Chengdu’s bustling street markets. And let’s not forget the dim sum in Cantonese regions—little parcels of joy you won’t stop popping into your mouth. Pack stretchy pants because, trust me, you’ll need them.
China’s culture game is next-level, and you’ll see why when you stroll through the Forbidden City in Beijing. It’s massive, stunning, and filled with history. Then there’s the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an—life-size soldiers that leave you thinking, “How on earth did they make these thousands of years ago?” And of course, cities like Shanghai and Beijing will blow your mind with their blend of ancient traditions and futuristic vibes.
Whether it’s catching up with your cousin over dumplings or sealing a business deal with some of the world’s biggest companies, China has you covered. You’ll have 30 whole days to reconnect, network, and make memories that matter.
If you’ve ever wanted a mix of high-energy city life and tranquil nature escapes, China is your dream destination. Spend a day in Shanghai, where neon-lit skyscrapers meet charming old streets. Then, unwind at West Lake in Hangzhou—a spot straight out of a painting, with lush greenery, serene waters, and ancient pagodas. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and you’ll never want to leave.
Shanghai Disneyland isn’t just for kids—it’s a magical playground for everyone! From meeting characters like Woody, Captain America, or even Alice, to screaming your heart out on the rides, it’s non-stop fun. And don’t even get me started on the food and merch—you’ll be tempted to bring an extra suitcase just for the souvenirs.
