Taking more than 5 hours flight is already quite exhausting. Imagine, if you are on a nearly 19 hours non-stop flight which is the longest flight time in the world. It will be more challenging!

Long-haul flights can be uncomfortable, miserable, and draining. Poor preparation before the long flights might destroy your mood as well as your entire travel plan. Bad experiences on flights will make you almost completely out of energy when you arrive.

Below are some tips on what to do on a long flight and how to make your long-haul flight comfortable especially if you travel with kids. Long-haul flights with kids do not have to be stressful and can be a lot of fun. You only need to know some tricks to achieve that.

Let’s check it out!

1. ‘Invest’ In Seats

Both the parents and the kids need to be comfortable when traveling on long-haul flights with a family. So, invest a bit in seats. When selecting your seats, you may need to take into consideration a lot of factors, including your family's size, the seat's space, the location of the restroom, and so on. If you have an extra budget, opt for business or first-class seats for a more satisfying experience.

It's important to choose your seat carefully on an airline, especially if you want to spend the next 8 to 15 hours comfortably there. Therefore, pick the best chairs and give your children their own space by providing them with their own seats (this is important!). Do not ever try to let your kids just sit on your lap because you want to save money.

2. Bring An Inflatable Foot Pillow

An inflatable foot pillow is the most useful item you should bring. Your kids will be able to stretch their legs out or lie down throughout the flight to sleep and rest comfortably with this foot pillow. Be sure to check your airline's website before your travel because some airlines do not allow these pillows.

Make sure you buy the inflatable one, so it does not take up so much space in your bag and is easy to bring anywhere.

3. Download Some Movies, Games, Music, Etc

You will need some entertainment to keep your children (and yourself) from getting bored. It would be great if the flight featured a screen for entertainment. However, just be ready with some pre-downloaded movies, games, cartoons, or educational applications because airline wi-fi is not always reliable. You can download movies from Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, or Disney+ with just one click and be able to watch them without an internet connection once they have been downloaded.

4. Plan Activities

If you prefer to travel screen-free, plan activities for your kids to help them be occupied. Bring colors, drawing blocks, game cards, do origami, read books, and many more. Make sure your kids enjoy the journey so they do not act up. It also will help you to rest and have time to relax. You can join them for more fun.

5. Wear Comfortable Clothes

Pack the most comfortable clothes that you and your kids have. Change into it on the flights to enable you and your kids to be more comfortable. Please consider the in-flight temperature can be so cold for thin and short clothes. So, bring sweaters and comfy socks with you also. You can change back into your usual clothes before landing.

Make sure to bring extra clothes, pampers, or any kids’ needs in case you might need them on the flights. Better be prepared than be miserable!

6. Pack Extra Snacks

Meals on the airlines are usually very limited especially if you have limited cash. Oops. So, do not forget to pack extra snacks to avoid your kids getting hungry on the flights. If your kids are still breastfeeding or bottle feeding, prepare the milk accordingly. However, do not bring too much food or bring the prohibited foods to avoid any drama.

Conclusions

All of the above advice applies to anyone who is planning a long-distance flight in the near future. Do not take it easy to avoid unnecessary stress later. Lastly, hopefully, you can enjoy your long flights!
