The Cheng Ho Cultural Museum is located in Lorong Hang Jebat, Melaka, Malaysia. The museum is about Zhang He. He was a Ming Dynasty’s Admiral Cheng Ho who visited Melaka up tp 5 times in his famous seven voyages to the Western Ocean. There he visited the Southeast Asia, Indian Ocean, Middle East as well as Africa. Along the Northern Side of the Melaka River, it was said where Zheng He built his big warehouse complex. It was also said that Zhange He’s warehouse may be at Bukit Cina because there is a Sampo well. Hence the area is named Sampo Hill.
In 2000, a discovery was made towards a cluster of dilapidated ancient buildings in the old part of Melaka Town. Some of them are believed to have been built more than 200 or 300 years ago. All of the warehouses have the Ming architectural style to it.
Despite being more than 200 years old, the warehouse still displays the life of Zhang He and his world Voyage in his fleet. It has pictures of his travels together with Chinese history.
It is definitely a museum where one may learn more about the history of Ming Dynasty and learn about the voyage that Zhang He had when he travelled the world 300 years ago. Moreover the architectural was maintained therefore visitors will be able to see the Chinese influence.
Visitors may come to this museum from Monday to Sunday however for Sunday it is only available for night visit by appointment. As for the admission fees it is RM20 for adults and RM10 for children or students.
From Kuala Lumpur, one may take the North – South Expressway and head to Ayer Keroh. By taking Ayer Keroh exit, one should be able to see sign boards heading towards the Museum. It will take around 2 hours and 39 minutes to drive there. The distance is 144 kilometres.
One may take a bus to Melaka. There are many busses from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan. Some of the companies that go to Melaka are Mayang Sari Express, KKKL Sdn Bhd and also Kejora Express. It will stop at Melaka Central Bus Terminal. The fee would be RM11 to RM 18.40. From the bus terminal, one needs to take a taxi to go to the museum.
