Fort Cornwallis Padang Kota Lama is a good place to start off a day of visiting the old historic buildings in Georgetown. It is the largest standing fort in Malaysia built by the British East India Company in the late 18th century. Being named after the then Governor-General of Bengal, Charles Cornwallis, the fort never engaged in combat during its operational history. There is an enclosed park within where you will get to take a stroll along the fort perimeters while hearing the 1812 Overture playing over the speaker system. Spanning at 4490 sqft, the fort stands on the site where Captain Francis Light first set foot in 1786 on the then uninhabited Penang. For a local adult visitor, the admission fee is RM10 while it is RM5 for a child. On the other hand, a foreigner visitor is charged RM20 for the adult and RM10 for a child. Located close to the Esplanade and Penang Clocktower, this place is easily accessible by public as well as private transport.

Clan Jetties of Penang

A Clan Jetty is a village built on stilts and these were built by some pioneer Chinese immigrants back to the old days. Being part of the Penang Heritage Trail, the clan jetties are the traditional settlement established more than a century ago. They house the descendants from Fukien Province in China, who shared common historical, geographical and clan origins. They left their motherland and were to find jobs as stevedores and cross -channel ferry boatman in the bustling port of Penang. The water village is located straight down from Lebuh Chulia (beside the Kapitan Kling Mosque) at Pengkalan Weld. Each jetty is named after a Chinese clan. The setting at the jetties is perfect for those kodak moments.

Stands as the sixth tallest building in Malaysia, Komtar is located at the junction of the Jalan Penang and Jalan Magazine. It comprises of retail outlets, a transportation hub and administrative offices for the Penang state government.
