The mural street art in Georgtown is a new attraction in Penang. The walls on streets in Penang Heritage Trail are painted uniquely to mimick of the life in the city. An effort to seed awareness of the rich history of the streets, the project was a success with a Lithuanian artist, Zacharevic turning certain areas into prosperous tourist attractions that also become a distinguished spots among locals. In conjunction with Georgtown Festival in 2012, other local artists have also joined in painting some of the murals. Combining humour and historical facts, these murals describe the early settlement days in Penang. These paintings symbolize the close relationship the locals have in daily lives with these landmarks. Some of the famous murals are “Kids on Bicycle”, “Old Motorcycle” and “Kungfu Girl”. Most of the time, there are queues of people waiting to have their photographs taken with these murals. To enjoy the murals, you can just walk around the heritage trail or take a trishaw ride. These beautiful paintings are available at 24 walls in this town.

Penang Heritage Trail

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, Georgtown has many unique spots to explore. One of them is Penang Heritage Trail. This trail covers many interesting places and historical building along Armenian Street, Lebuh Cannon, Weld Quay, Lebuh Pantai and Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. The core historic zone spans more 100 hectares and covers 1700 historic buildings. It is very recommended that you could get yourself Penang Traveller's Map from Tourism Centre nearby. Due to many places of interest to be checked out, it would be impossible to finish visiting each and every place in one day.

Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera)

Tucked at the hilltop, 735 meter above sea level, Penang Hill can be reached either by cable car or hiking. You are advised to prepare phisically and mentally if you opt for hiking. The trails are going to take you into an adventurous journey. A perfect destination for recreational activities and photography, the hill is also an ideal honeymoon venue due to its idyllic setting. Eventhough it is located not far from the hectic Georgtown city, visitors will be able to see various types of flora and fauna as Penang Hill is a well preserved area. If you plan board the cable car, it takes 5 to 7 minutes to reach the top. Be sure to come early especially during public or school holidays. The queue to get into the cable car can take you for hours!

Located only less than one kilometer away from Penang Mural Street Art, this place was once a warehouse featuring the Southern Chinese Eclectic Style which was built around 1840-1900’s by the artisan from South China hired by the Chinese Merchants reside here.
