For the true chocolate lover, a visit to the Teck Guan Cocoa Village in Tawau is a must. Tawau is known for its booming cocoa industry and the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum proudly houses the history of its development over the years. With its attractive design and layout, the museum is the only one of its kind in Malaysia. Within the museum grounds, you will also find a cocoa processing plant and manufacturing factory, giving you an up close view of the production process. Various products are also available for purchase, from chocolate jam to instant hot cocoa beverages.
Both Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia offer daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau. It takes about half an hour to get to the airport from the Tawau town and about an hour from Semporna town. If you are heading to the town from the airport, you are required to purchase a taxi coupon from the taxi counter before heading outside the terminal building to get a taxi. The taxi fare is fixed depending on your destinations. A cheaper solution is to travel by public bus, from or to the Tawau Airport. To get to Teck Guan Cocoa Village, you can take a taxi from Tawau town for approximately RM40.00 (one way) or you can simply drive your own car. The journey takes 40 minutes by road. If you require a taxi ride back to town, make an arrangement with the reception desk.
